I rode an unobtaniun bike today.

So Im hanging out with my moto racing friends and they casually drop the hey want to help us get ready for our trackday tomorrow... We have a surprise gift if you do.

We take off and go to this dudes house and they bought a bike. A very rare and special bike. An aprilia rs125. Not just any rs125, a ****ing street legal one. They threw me a helmet and said ride it back to our place. They snickered because it wasnt a normal rs125 at all.

Specs: woodcraft rear sets, marzocci fully adjustable forks, ohlins shock, arrow carbon full exhaust system, carbon reed valves, 153cc big bore kit, dyno tuned and re jetted.

Yea they have a stock rs125 which puts out 21 rwhp. Pipe and rejet got them 24. Bike weighs about 285 lbs. this thing must've been making 30ish.

This bike makes the ninja 250 feel lethargic. Insta revs, the brake is awesome, the thing flicks over like a track only motard. I'm sure the 300 is faster power wise but this thing would is exactly what I want out of a mini sport bike.

Here's the kicker. All we did was strip the bike of all the track goodies for their track only bike and swap the stock stuff over. They are going to sell the bike to zero out the cost. The original owner showed us the receipts. My god. The upgrades can only be purchased from Italy. The forks and shock? $4100 US dollars. $900 for the oem wiring harness and and stock lighting, and who knows how and how much he paid to get the thing street legal.

I swapped the parts on it and I totally appreciate the ease of working on it. It is very much a track bike first and street bike second. Everything is easy access and super inuitive. Plus it's so light I can just pick up the rear and scoot it around.

After riding it, I want one. Bad. It seriously is the perfect street bike for me. I want one just to troll group rides with. Imagine now people will get passed by a friggin 125 hahaha. The decals aren't painted on so you don't have to look like super poser. I won't tell you all what they paid for the bike but the guy wanted $8500 for the thing

I'm kinda glad I don't have the cash. I'm still thinking about getting rid of the ninjette and buying it. But it was very cool to ride this tiny bike that I probably won't ever see on the streets.

The equivalent of a Vespa tuned for high performance.

Glad to see an A-class example of what results in hard effort and a passion for motorcycle work.

'Should take a video if you get another chance to roll around with it.

always thought they would be a fun bike. I would have one in my garage if i had any money to throw around. Found it a few months ago while i still lived in MD. i would hunt for them all the time and never could find a nice one i thought i could get tagged and titled until i found this once in a lifetime bike which is slipping through my fingers.

Brand new, tagged and titled for street use, its still available. Not sure if i could get it transferred to PA or not but if i was still in MD it would be as easy as going to shop and signing some paper work. They would give me tags and title at the dealership. I guess i could at least take a cruise there and check it out... but i know that is a bad idea as i might end up with something i can't afford right now, SO MUCH WANT!!

When I lived in Germany I saw a bunch of rs125's. They're all street legal there, but most riders are on restricted licenses so their bikes sound like mosquitoes.

It was street equipped but it couldn't have been street legal. How would they convince a state to allow you to register a modern 2-stroke over 50ccs?

^ this

I looked into this for awhile and the 150 kit but at that point decided an rs250 would be a better idea. I currently have neither but if I come up with the loose change I'm going to try and snatch up a 250.

Although there is an old yamy RZ350 for sale not to far away from me right now... my curiosity is peaked but, that is a good bit of money to pay for a 30yr old bike but a 350 twin 2 smoker? Hell yeah! I would really just want the engine and it would be a shame to take the engine out and swap it in a newer frame.

Used to be very common in Australia... until they got kitted and all blew up.

Italian and 2 stroke so that's always gonna happen.

Never meet your heroes? That bike ended up having a lot of issues. Because it was a street bike and not a true track bike the engine mods made it unreliable. The auto oiling kit couldn't keep up. The piston seized multiple times on track resulting in a broken collar bone. The motor was professionally built three times and no one could get it right. Really cool concept, horrible in real life.

On that note an rs125 chassis with an 85 two stroke motor makes for an awesome mini road race bike on a cart track.

shane when he was racing with the rs125 had disabled the oil feeder and was running premix. i believe he said the oiler was known to be unreliable

never came across one that cheap and I've done a good bit of hunting in my days

$4k-6k is average asking price of a streetable one with tags and title.

rs250 cup bikes can be had for the same price

Great Friends!
That bike looks beautiful, all it needs is an e-start KTM 350 in it.

I was given the chance to ride an RSV4 Factory for two weeks while my friend was on vacation, he even brought the bike to my house! I managed 2k in 11 days.
Coolest sounding bike ever built IMO.
