Soon to be owner!(hopefully!!) in PA

Hey guys so like the title says I will hopefully be a ninja 300 owner in a few loooong weeks lol. I am from Pennsylvania, about 50 minutes outside of Philly and 20 outside of Reading. At the moment I own a 2001 Buell Blast but this dang thing is nickel and diming me. I bought my first bike(the Buell) about 7 weeks ago and already put over 1,000 bucks into the freaking thing. It doesn't stop there either, it needs more but I'm putting it up for sale so i have money as a down payment for my ninja! I'm 23 years old and very new to riding but its fun as all get out. I found this forum just doing some research online about the bike I want. I hope it's the right size for me. I am 5'6" 155 lbs. Some people are telling me I need something faster because I will outgrow this in one summer. I don't believe it!

P.S. I am also looking into that Costco Program thingy, I don't know much about it as of now but i submitted my info and called the number they gave me. The lady said she will give me a call back with more information soon!

Hey thanks man! How are your 250's speed wise? Quick enough that if you had to get away from an oncoming car could you? I think the 300 will be perfect for for myself.

The 300 is a good ride. Pulls as hard as most cars all the way up to 80s
and it keeps going until 105-110

Depends on how much you weigh also. The rider can have serious effect on the HP / lb ratio of a small bike

I love my GFs 300

Welcome to the forum.

Buell blast has the personality of a lawn mower. You will be in love with the 300

Time to cue up @rojoracing53's video climbing Mt. Hamilton. This is a 250, going uphill:

Link to original page on YouTube.

(his has some basic mods, but peak hp is still less than the stock peak hp on a 300).

That's awesome Klondike. Some peole were telling me my blast was quicker than the 300 but I agree with you and I'm tired of driving a lawn mower to work lol. And thanks for the welcome! I'm only 155 so I'm not a big person lol. And thanks for that vid Alex!

Wow Eddie thats a damn good price, however, I will be getting mine with ABS I think. From what I've read and been told about it, it seems much safer and less likely to lock up tires. and I definitely do not want to crash a bike I just bought lol... Thanks for the Welcome Allanoue! I am going to try this Costco Motorcycle Program thing I read about on this forum. I filled out something online and gave them a call but they havent gotten back to me yet with any info. From what i read on this forum some people are getting like 800 bucks off their bikes brand spankin new. Thats crazy!! Either way I will keep you guys informed if I end up getting this 300 or not. I have to convince my dad to let me sell my blast and buy this lol... fingers crossed!

Yeah welcome to the fray

I've only recently felt the 250 was under powered after over two years of riding only because I've been using it to cross several states on long strait hwys carrying my MTB into crazy strong headwinds. I will note along with my minor performance mods exhaust & jetting kit I also running 15-41 gearing so when I have to downshift to 4th gear to stay at the speed limit into the wind(with mtb) that's still basically about as tall as 6th gear with stock gearing so I guess it's not that bad.

As for whether or not the 250 is powerful enough to do all the other stuff your likely want it to do EI not carry a second bike on it's back or go 100mph across three states in a day into 50 mph headwinds, it should be fine.

Don't for a second think only people who have never ridden a real or fast bike can be happy with the 250. You'll have a hard time finding any everyday street rider with more Real or fast bike experience at their limits then I.

I won't try and tell you go buy a 250 and you'll be able to do what is shown in my multiple youtube videos because that would require an amount of skill you likely don't posses. But at least you know the bike has the potential and you can focus on bettering yourself as a rider instead of figuring out how to try and use just a little more of your over powered super sport 600-1000's. Check out my channel for many other videos some are even related to important stuff like clutch control and shifting efficiency if I remember right.

I don't condone riding this fast on the street and I know that makes me a hypocrite but I'll say I only did this stuff for a few months over a year ago and haven't done any fast canyon riding since because I don't think going triple the speed limit is safe. On that note here's a video of what it'd like to go fast up a 4-5% grade chasing a bunch of 600-1000cc riders on a road I've never seen before.

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the welcomes!! My bike doesn't have a name but I don't even have it yet lol. I will be getting a black 300 with ABS. Hopefully Tuesday of next week I will be the happy new owner of this bike. I am so excited and can not freaking wait! I just hate how all my friends are saying"it's too slow, it's underpowered" but yet again they never rode one... Like wth?! Lol. They all rode 250's but never a 300. And from everything I've read and researched the 300 smokes a 250 in acceleration.

Slow for a bike I agree. But it's faster than the average car right? Pretty much I just want to make sure it isn't slower than my current Buell blast.

The 300 is light, an fast. First gear is near useless. It's hella fun though! Had mine a year, haven't outgrown it. I ride with R1, R6, and gsxr race bikes, they only slow down for me on straight shots, an if they wanna go over 100 they can do that all they please, I ain't got a reason to on the road.
Welcome!

Thanks Johnny! That makes me happy to hear. And I agree I have no need to exceed 100mph on a freaking bike lol. It's scary enough in a car. I hope it's quicker than my Buell. Either way I'm almost positive it will be more fun then my Buell.

Well around Laguna Seca I can do the same lap times on the 250 as I can in the $45,000 Nismo 370Z. My dad and I had a bet last year during our car and bike trackday on who could go faster. He beat me by 0.2sec but I figure that's not bad for a bike that's 10% of what his car cost 0-60 times between the two is really close as well but 60-100 he just starts to walk on me.

The ninja 250 is slow but with a good rider or driver anything can be fast.

It's freakin amazing fun, everybody wants to ride it, dummies think it's anything from a 600- 1K, I just shake my head an smile. I don't see me giving up my 3 even when I get its older bro to park beside it. You def won't "have" to put as much money into it, as for speed comparison

It will still go 100 mph 2 up. It will just take a bit longer to get there, if that is what you want want.

Where are the bigger ninjetters @ today? I've heard some stories about well over 300 lbs on a 250/300, I'm 148 so don't look at me

That was definitely what I was looking for. One other thing was does it still have decent pick up from 0-60 with 2 up. That's all I'm worried about incase I see someone behind me that doesn't see me so I can take off quick and not bog like crazy

300 lbs on a 300, you will have the pick up of an average sedan like a Civic or Cobalt.

I was ridding 2 up on with my GF ridding yesterday on her stock ninja 300
It gets up to speed comfortably and cruises no problem. It is not as fast as with one person obviously and handling is effected a bit.

I took it out into 55MPH traffic and was able to accelerate to speed within 600 ft I would guesstimate. We were in 3rd and I shifted to 4th to get the rpm down.

I took it down some curvy roads, the posted yellow speed signs said 40 where I was going about 50 and 25 where I was going almost 40 leaning slightly.

I was taking it easy as we had just lowered it and I wanted to see how it changed the handling. You can get a spirited ride out of 300 even two up and ample power for usual traffic.

She prefers ridding two up on the 300 as opposed to my GSXR.
It a much mellower enjoyable ride. She things the 300 seat is too small and not so comfortable though.

I weigh 150 and she weighs 115 ish so that will give you an idea I hope.

But I can't scare the hell out of a passenger on a 300 like I can on a gsxr.

some people thinks faster is better.
If you want her ride with you to be more than a one time lapse in judgment…..

Not so much
