New Rider from Orlando

Hey everyone. I am new here however I have been following the forum for a few months now. I recently bought by bike and i love it. I followed this forum because i was planning on buying a 250r for my first bike. This weekend i finally took the MSF course and it went well. They were really nice because they past me even though i fell twice, once in the squire and another time doing a right turn.

Well this weekend was my 16th birthday so my present was the MSF course and my mom bought me a bike. I couldnt believe it when i saw the Yamaha R6 sitting there in the garage. I love it. it is a 2010 R6 and my mom said she got for a good price.

As a new rider i just have a few question. in the MSF i never had troubles braking, however, with the r6 i have already raised the back tire of the ground twice. I know i hitting the brakes a little too hard but i dont recall the brakes in the MSF that sensitive. Second question is that whenever i turn i feel like my back tire is going to slide from under me. I think it might be the tread, but what other problems may that be?

Anyway, hello again and any feedback will be appreciated. Safety is definetly the most important thing on my mind. If my mom would have bought me a 1000cc i would have told her i didnt want it because i care about safety.

Welcome Michael and fellow R6 rider! I am glad you chose this forum vs some of the other R6 specific forums. One good rider for every ten it seems over there.

I am 100% sure the little MSF bikes are not as sensitive as your bike. Everything about an R6 will be largely exaggerated compared to the MSF bikes. And the rear sliding feel? Is your rear tire spent? Do you know how to find the wear markers? Tire pressure up to par?

EDIT: Unless your riding above your ability, making a mistake or have setup/tire problem, your R6 should feel ROCK solid under you.

Good thinking on the safety first and seeing how your first bike is a R6, your going to need to keep that line of thought priority one, for a good while.

Take a week and get to know your bike's basic setup. Oil, coolant, tires and get some help baselining your suspension for your weight. The suspension on a 2010 is amazing for stock.

Gear up and ride responsibly!

A few pics would be cool too!

Howdy, beautiful bike. Respect it and practice a lot for the next couple of months/years ... never stop learning it's a life time thing but practice hard for the next couple of months in a quiet place.

That is a nice bike! Make sure you ride safely, wear gear, and don't let yourself get carried away.
