Pirelli Diablo Scooter Rubber ordered!
I'm pretty excited at the prospect of riding the green demon with new rubber. I just ordered a set of Pirelli Diablo scooter tires. I bought the bike last spring and rode through spring, summer and fall on the rock hard (probably the original Dunlops from 2001!!). Just a little bit slippery. Lol. These Pirelli's should be a revelation.

Good news. Mounting them yourself?
Having some bead sealant may be a good idea. Mine had issues seating and sealing the bead. |

You'll be amazed at the grip difference. The bike should feel so much better to you with those tires.
They're good tires, I've run them at Intermediate track group pace on multiple occasions.

I would give it a go but I'm in a condo now so no shop space. I have to find someplace locally that can do it. Can anyone recommend a place near Freehold, NJ?

Its like rubber cement. The one i got seems more like rtv:
Look for tire bead sealer or sealant. Got mine from Amazon- the Steelman brand. I carefully painted that stuff on the rim and tire bead (the inner edge of tire that butts against the rim ) |

Oh yeah! I had the Diablos mounted today and put about 50 miles on them. I could instantly tell that there was a difference. I'm not talking about cornering but rather the feel of them. Turning at slow speed is much heavier but that's not apparent at speed. The dealer told me to take it easy for the first hundred miles so I wasn't doing anything crazy but I did have some fun. I almost missed an off ramp exit, I entered it way too late but I thought what the hell. I straightened her up and got on the brakes, kicked her down two gears then tipped her in at the last second before hitting the loose stuff and off she went. Never would have tried that with the ancient original Dunlops. Now I'm going to learn how to ride this thing the right way...

On Sunday morning I rode the Ninja down to NJMP to check out the TeamProMotion track day.
First of all I'm really digging the Diablos. They've transformed the handling of the bike. I put another 200 plus miles on them this trip and can't fault them. Not one slide or iffy moment. They handle irregularities in the pavement without issue. I took an off ramp faster than I ever have before and I was going too slow. Can't wait to get these on the track. Second-- I can't wait to get on track. I met one of the instructors while I was walking the paddock, nice guy, Mark, and he walked with me and explained things and showed me around. Very friendly and relaxed group. If I take my bike on the track I think that I need to maybe upgrade the brake pads and bleed the brakes. Maybe do the chain and sprocket. I have 9300 miles on my 2002.

I have worked with many coaches at this point, and mark is an amazing coach. he is able to explain things in ways that make perfect sense as well as being able to pinpoint exactly what a riders strengths and weaknesses are after following them for as little as a lap. I worked with him at njmp and got down to a fastest lap of a 1:47 (which is pretty quick on a 250, and a clean mid-intermediate pace) Paul and Johnny are great coaches as well (it doesn't hurt that they're the hardcore ccs racers out of the coaches)

I got a great vibe from him. When I got home I went to enroll in the session at NJMP for 5/23 and 24 but they're no longer on the website. Already booked? I'm waiting for a call back. I'm really eager to give track riding a go after seeing it.

It's a very popular track so it tends to get booked easily.

I found out yesterday that the event wasn't book but rather there was a schedule change with the track. I just now registered for the June 13th session. Now I need to get my bike ready. I'm going to start another thread asking for suggestions on track prepping a street bike for track days. I'm pretty excited
