3d printing things for the 250?
Anyone ever try and making something for their motorcycle to be printed on a 3d printer? I have access to one, and i was thinking that i could make some headlight brackets to fit the 250 so i can install a round headlight conversion.
What other accessories or parts would make decent projects? Thingiverse has some great models. Seems the sv650 is really popular. But making a bracket should be fairly easy. Just need the diameter of the fork tubes. |

I have thought about this for some time. How about 3-D printing a device to replace the passenger seat on a new-gen for mounting hard luggage? The sides would be flat and parallel to each other. The top would be flat and level. The bottom would be printed with a shape identical to the seat, complete with the mounting tab slot, the four support legs, and a place to bolt the seat lock peg.
This would serve as a platform for mounting a rack or topcase bracket, and hard sidecase carriers. Mounting hard luggage on a new-gen Ninja 250 has been nearly impossible, requiring fabrication beyond the scope of most of us. This may be a simple way to solve the problem. Like the weight of a passenger sitting upon the seat, the weight of the luggage would sit on top of the frame as it should. All the hard sidecase projects I've seen on this site utilize brackets hanging from the tiny bolts under the tail, which I would not trust. My diagrams are pretty crude, way out of scale, but I think you'll get the idea. Last futzed with by Kevin1956; May 17th, 2016 at 12:48 AM. |

Good ideas, but if you are doing any sort of structural thing metal is what you need. Plastic will eventually break i think. It would also need to be fairly small. I think the 3rd printer i have printes 5" cubed so you are limited in that way.

Do a gauge pod for stock gauges to go into for that cafe look. Also some fork clamps for aftermarket turn signals and rear turns as well.

A 3D printed airbox that can be taken out easily, accepts the OEM filter, and still provides the benefits of having a proper plenum. Project is on hold until I can get access to a decent print area.

A quick look at the Thingverse page,
1. Throttle Lock/cruise control 2. Wrist rest 3. Kickstand plate 4. Windshield Spoiler for more wind deflection. 5. Action Camera mount 6. Chain Lube Helper 7. An automatic Chain Luber (might have to make parts and use some thing else and the oil receptacle.) Didn't see one there but it would be cool to make. 8. EZ Pass holder 9. Knee Sliders 10. sun visor for GPS/phone |
