Angry SOS: Help Removing Rear Axle Boly

Help!! I am trying to remove the rear axle bolt on my 08 250 but I cant. I need to remove it because the person I bought the bike from bent one of the chain adjuster bolts that are on both sides of the wheel. I ordred all new parts and need to remove the axle bolt so that I can pull the chain adjuster bolt out and replace it. However, when I try to remove it, it wont budge. I tried using a lift, leaving the rear wheel on the ground, had a friend hold a wrench to the bolt head while I used a large socket wrench on the nut, but to no avail! When I try and loosen the nut the whole bolt spins with it. I even wedge a wrench between my bolt and the spool so that trying to loosen it would just push my wrench against the spool and it would get the tiniest bit loose. After wedging the wrench against the spool and around the bolt head, the head started to strip... ARE YOU SERIOUS!? How can that be!? I am out of ideas, and was hoping to fix this myself so I could save some money.

Has this ever happened to anyone and if it did how did you fix it?

The bolt head (chain side) is literally stripping.

Take a picture of what you're trying to do. Have you removed the cotter pin holding the bolt on?

Is the nut still on there and you literally can't loosen it to get it off? Or is the nut off and you just can't get the bolt out of the sleeve? If the later, you're gonna need to take something like a screwdriver and a hammer and press it out from the one side. I had to hammer the crap out of mine to get it out.

Alex, I'm not sure how taking a picture would help but i suppose I could tomorrow in the daylight. Yes I did take the cotter pin out and had my buddy who rides as well come over and he was shocked it wouldn't loosen up.

Forceofwill, I cannot loosen the nut, I would take a sledge hammer to the end of the bolt if thats all that was holding me back, haha.

Bob706, I am not sure of the socket wrench, but my buddy who lent it to me used it on his Ninja, so I'm positive its the right size. Its about a foot long so I definitely think I have enough leverage.

Alex.s, I thought it was the other way around....?

when looking down on a nut, turning counter clockwise unscrews the nut. clockwise tightens. lefty (at the top) loosey, righty (at the top) tighty.

maybe some smart guy put red locktite? try hitting the nut with some heat. sometimes if a nut is deteriorated enough (unlikely with a newgen 250 who could be aat most from 2008) the bolt and nut will rust together and actually bond... at that point its easier to just cut the ****er off and replace it with new hardware.

Alex, I was kidding haha

I am hoping I do not need to buy new hardware, as I already waited a week for the other OEM parts to come in to fix the chain adjuster.

Are you using a 24MM (metric) socket or a SAE one?

btw the chain adjust issue you described is caused when the lock nut for the adjuster nut on the adjuster bolt is not properly secured down into the adjuster nut... in other words, there are two nuts on the adjuster bolt. set the first one, then tighten the second one into the first one

... you know, so it doesn't happen again.

Bones85, I am not sure what it is, I believe it is mm. But my buddy who let me borrow it races and knows more than enough about his ninja and what tools to give me, so I do not believe he gave me a one that doesnt fit as well.

Everyone, I appreciate all your input guys.

Yup, I was able to read the manual talk to my friend to figure out how the chain adjusters work. The guy I bought the bike from somehow figured out how to bend one of the adjuster bolts (probably during his lowside fall somehow). Cap and the two nuts on the left side arent even there anymore (some of the OEM parts I purchased).

it happens when the lock nut isn't tightened properly. the lock nut slides off, then the adjuster nut, then the end cap spins and hits the sprocket nuts, bending the adjuster bolt outward.

That must be exactly what happened, because the bolt is bending outwards. That doesn't damage the wheel in the process?

Use a breaker bar to gain more torque. If you have 2 breaker bars, even better, you can have your buddy hold the other nut still while you use your breaker bar to untorque the nut side.

Didnt have any trouble with mine.
Get an impact wrench and use it to loosen the nut while your friend holds a breaker against the bolt.

should be fine. but you'll notice if you look at the nuts on your rear chain sprocket, you should see scratches/dings on the sprocket nuts where the plate hit it.
