However this is the bike I think will actually make an impact in the small bike segment:

Just hope these new bikes make it to the US market!

Correction! Old brain is runnin slow tonight!

It was a 1973 CT70 that was my first DS bike! Similar power to the CRF, but a bit lighter!

There are some pics of that prototype over in this thread. Will be interesting to see if Kawi decides to bring it stateside, but I'm skeptical (like some other posters in that thread) that it will pencil out financially in this market. It would have to be significantly cheaper than the Ninja 300 for it to be attractive. If it is using all similar components other than a cheaper single compared to the twin, that might not be enough to get the price low enough.

But I can get the Honda for under 5k OTD with pretty good interest rates. Sure there's possibly better ways to build credit, but I wouldn't walk away with a new bike. As for lusting over the bike, well I sort of do lust over it. It'll open up a whole new type of riding for me. It's no kick ass KTM or anything but those things are expensive and high maintenance. I need affordable and reliable/low maintenance. That's where the CRFL comes in. But thanks for the advice everyone. I just think this plan is going to suit MY needs and wants the best.
I may have missed it in this thread - but there are quite a few "like new" used WR250Rs available for good prices in the U.S. Not knocking the CRF250L though. It seems to be an outstanding value. However, the WR250R produces about 7 more rear-wheel hp, is about 20 lbs lighter, has much better suspension (and generally higher quality components). Virtually every online review I've read that pits the WR250R against the CRF250L - has given the nod to the WR. I love mine. And they are incredibly reliable. The stock 36"+ seat height can be rather daunting though. I lowered mine using the stock lowering mods, and also purchased a Yama-link. Both collectively lower the seat height about 2 inches.

With that said - you won't go wrong with the CRF250RL.

[sportrider - features] - 2015 Honda CBR300R First Look

After months of hoping, wishing, and praying, American Honda announced that it will be adding the CBR300R to its 2015 model-year lineup. The announcement comes roughly two months after the bike was added to the Honda Canada lineup, and nearly nine months after the bike was originally unveiled

Better late than never, right?

That’s the case here at least, as with the CBR300R there’s a 17-percent increase in peak power that'll allow Honda to go head-to-head with Kawasaki’s dominant Ninja 300.

The CBR300R’s single-cylinder engine has a new crankshaft and connecting rod which takes the engine stroke from 55mm to 63mm, thus bumping engine displacement by 37cc. A re-mapped fuel-injection system is intended to provide a more crisp throttle response, and a CBR500R-inspired exhaust system features “larger internal volume for increased performance, enhanced appearance and a throaty exhaust note,” Honda says.

The 300R’s design is comparable to the other entry-level CBRs—CBR250R and CBR500R included—but has a new seat and side covers for easier reach to the ground. Shorter mirror stalks and full fairings with dual headlights provide a sleeker look, Honda adds.

An accessory seat is more than one-inch lower than the standard seat for an easier reach to the ground, plus there’s a wide assortment of other accessories to choose from.

The 2015 CBR300R will retail for $4399, and the ABS version for $4899. Both models come with a one-year, unlimited-mileage limited warranty.

They only increased the engine by 36cc's. It isn't even a 300, it's a 286cc. Lame. At least Kawa pushed their bike to 296cc's.

Honda should just give up on the 250/300 and try to make the 500's better.

is a little disappointing at 286 cc which is too bad because the rest of the bike is pretty decent.

CBR300!

Honda decided to step up their game, too.

http://www.sportrider.com/sportbikes...00r-first-look

I dunno why, I woulda thought they would stick with the single cylinder 250, since that's what moto3 runs.

I like it though. Might ditch my 600.

The fairings look good on paper but look awful on the bike and do not match well on the bottom and if you crash it they'll all rip right off with ease.
I'll stick with the kawi.

Its not bad, but am I alone in wishing they would just bring something more along the lines of the old MC22 CBR250RR to the USA, instead of keeping with the low redline single cylinders?

Tiny 249cc inline four generating 45PS, 19,000rpm Redline, 346lb wet weight, dual front 275mm discs, aluminum swing arm...

Yeah, I suppose the economy isn't really favorable for that, but one can wish.

I just wish they'd go with a twin instead if the single.

Their reasoning for picking a single for the CBR250 was that it was easy to produce, being literally a quarter section of their liter bike engine. Fair enough.

Now it's a "300" and is no longer an easily divisible portion of an existing engine. Orrrrrr is it?! Oh that's right, 600/2=300. Honda, why not take a note from Kawasaki and make a twin that's half of your 600 engine. Knowing you, it will still be reliable and have strong mid range torque with a little less high strung top end. The frame and suspension of the CBR250R were competitive, but the engine fell woefully short. Let's make the whole package stronger with this redesign; no more of this wimpy single stuff. If you're going with a single, make it badass like a KTM 390 single. Otherwise, let's see a damn twin, Honda!

The 2014 Honda CBR 300 has an increase in displacement by lengthening the stroke length, increased 8mm from 55mm to the new length of 63mm giving the CBR 300 a new displacement of 286cc.

which interestingly doesn't really seem to be a huge help with where the bike lacks a competitive edge, high engine speeds and head flow at higher rpm. Its like they took a torque biased bike and make it more torque biased.

but this is looking at it from a sporting perspective, and I can guarantee that is not how Honda is looking at it.

Yeah, I suspect Honda is aiming this square at the commuting crowd, which, to be fair, is what 95% of the buyers will use them for. Most people will take them out for fun rides now and again, but I think the small sportbikes in the US are aimed at people who want good economy, but think scooters are for sissies or something silly like that. Lucky for Honda, there are a lot of 'silly' people in the US.

On the floor in here in Asia now

Totally not interested in this bike
But here are some pics of the Repsol version
All models have ABS

Price here of 138,900 for Repsol is equal to USD $4255
Non Repsol colors is 136k or $4164

Chone mentioned the single vs twin & I agree I prefer a multi
cylinder rpm based engine. I think Honda though is trying to create a tie with their Moto3 type bikes which of course would be nice if they actually did.
If they had tricked this engine/frame etc out a bit. But they did not. It is yet another boring offering IMHO
Albeit better looking than the 250 they had

it won't stack up next to the 300. 37cc bump on an already lazy bike.... whoopied flippin do 17% power increase Well 17% of a little bit is still only a little bit. Less than 5hp bump

I would consider the cbr300 over a new gen 250 but i don't think i could put it in the same league as the N300 which IMO has the looks and on paper it has the numbers over the Honda 300 thumper BUT!!... You can't argue with that price and i think that is what Honda is banking on drawing a crowd

Honda name + low priced entry level bike = good game plan.

The price will help set it further apart from the N300 and even allow it to possibly do well. But time will tell.

IMHO the wheels on the baby cibber look better than those on the ninjette. It looks like the front rotor might also be larger? Who's got the spec sheet out for chone?
