Cager's
So a good friend came over SAT. night for a few drinks, and we made a plan to take a "lunch" ride on Sun.. Get up Sun., decide to ride my ZRX1200R kwacker, so I pull it out and wash and polish it......lookin' great. Go upstairs to change, have a text from my bud......too hung over to ride.....????? We didn't drink THAT much. I was disapointed, but decided to go by myself. Probably was a good thing, as I had watched the AWSOME MotoGP race that morning, and I kind of had a wild hair attitude. So, off I go, and man, that ZRX felt so
good. I decide to go on a 115 mile loop I haven't ridden for a while, but most of the route is 2 lane country roads. So I'm running maybe 70, down a deserted country road (lettered here in MO.), take a casual look in the mirrors, and there right on my butt, is a black GT mustang. I speed up 15 mph, so does the Mustang. On the Ninjette, I would of slowed down until he passed, but the ZRX beg's a different response. I open the throttle and take off, quickly get to 120mph, and he's waaay back there, but trying to catch me, So I just keep up the speed, and keep accelerating up to and past 135mph. Soon he is so far back I can't see him. Sometimes extended high speeds make it hard for me to stop twisting the throttle, so for the rest of the ride I was in pure hooligan mood. Amazing how many cars will TRY to keep up when your blasting down the road. Not one ever does, at least when I'm riding the ZRX, cause me and my throttle hand won't allow it. Got home in record time, didn't see 1 POPO, and had a blast. Was much refreshed, and then watched the IOM TT. All in all, a great day, and a very fun, hair up my Butt ride. I LOVE massive torque (93 ft lbs, dyno tested) and HP (141.00BHP). Yehaw! |

Kinda stupid and immature on your part to risk 135 mph on public roads. Just to show your b*lls. The cage wasn't the problem you were!

A deserted country road. Flame me all you want, I'm 63 years old and have been riding for 50 years. I road raced when younger, off road raced until age 58. In all my years of riding (and I ride alot) I've only had 1 bike/car wreck (cager turned left in front of me, and I still almost missed her) at age 19 (totaled my 1971 Norton Commando). Funny thing is, I've never stopped having those days where I just feel like a hooligan and have to wring it out. I pick my places, and although my limits are fairly high, I do ride within them (my limits, not the laws). I own 4 bikes and only 2 of them are slow, my ninjette, and my 1970 Moto Guzzi 750 Ambassador (still faster than most Harleys, Ha Ha). I got addicted to speed at a very young age, and I just can't give it up. I'll probably go out in a bloody slide, but yaknow, I've always kinda expected to. Just hope I don't take anyone with me. Ain't gonna stop now!

I'm 61 and have had larger bikes. Lead by example! you're old enough to know better! It's stupid and you know it. We just had a 55 year old die yesterday on a country road by passing on a double yellow line and the car turned left into a driveway he was killed instantly. It still gives us a bad name and more excuses for LEO to pick on us because we are stupid. Just my $.02 WORTH.

I own one of those also and do the speed limit. What's your point. The speed limit is the legal limit if you want to go faster go to the track and stop endangering the public by your stupidity.

Interesting that the last 3 times I've been pulled over, all 3 for speeds in excess of 100 mph, I didn't get a ticket! My SIL, an LEO, say's it's because I stopped, but I think it had a lot to do with my gray hair. One cop actualy asked me how old I was, and why was I riding a bike like that (my ZRX). Again, I've ridden like this my whole (riding) life.......... I'm not stopping now. BTW, I don't ride like an idiot everytime I go, but when I'm by myself and get the itch.......I just gotta go

Double Yellows are more of a recommendation for safe passing of 4 wheeled vehicles in mind. Some places in my area it is just ridiculous for it to be double yellow, so when it is safe I make the move.

Clearly my comment was made in jest and meant to be humorous. It's well known that RVs tend to lumber on down the road at a reduced rate of speed. Surely you've been stuck behind a slow-moving RV on a mountain pass. It's happened to me dozens of times, when I am the one doing the legal speed limit and the RV is struggling to climb the grade. Seriously, lighten up. As for 'stupidity', I wasn't the one who was speeding, so try getting your accusations correct...

Dang mike, slow down a bit.
If you've got the itch, scratch it. But don't forget the consequences. If some random car pulls out in front of you from some random location on some random place on the road, you can't account for that chance. it's a variable that you can't predict. 135 to zero in four seconds is physically impossible. That's 60m per second. 197 feet per second. If you had 4 seconds, and reacted instantly, you'd only scrub off 800ft until you pasted yourself on the car's quarter panel at 94mph with enough kinetic energy to displace the engine block from the chassis of the vehicle. I think it would hurt, but it's a crapshoot at that speed. How quickly can you drop your speed from 135mph in 4 seconds? Ride safe.

ive learned in my few short years of riding, that in the motorcycle community (one who prides themselves of the freedoms) there sure are ALOT of people telling other people how to ride. I completely understand the argument and agree, but no one likes a buzzkill.

Not going to go nuts bashing you for your choice to ride in a reckless and stupid way. IMO BUT, let me just point something out: You, or anyone for that matter, buzzing buy a car at breakneck speeds may scare said car to swerve into a ditch or oncoming traffic. Or hit a car with kids in it, or another bike coming around a blind corner. Basicly what i'm trying to say is you may be able to handle it, but not the other vehicles on the road. A good example happened to me over the weekend. Driving down I95 doing about 75mph in my car (with the flow of traffic) when a group of riders on sport bikes rocket past us like we are standing still. They must have been doing over 120mph. I know it was coming and it still made me and my boyfriend jump. I feel this kind of riding gives us all a bad name. Even if you don't care about yourself, i'm sure you have people that care about you and someone that you may hurt or kill if you make a mistake. Maybe some more track days would help with your "wild hair" moments. Please be safe...

You need to go back and read the post. You are way off on all your comments. Who is more reckless and stupid, someone going fast on a deserted country road and posting about how fun it was or someone crashing anywhere because they can't ride. Seeing how you were on 95 I take this as the Turnpike where in New Jersey everyone rides the left lane (even if there is no one in any other lane) which already gives NJ drivers a bad name.

Thats my opinion and i'm sticking to it.
Like it or hate it at your own discretion. I was simply adding my view point. If you or a loved one got hit by someone riding or driving like that how would you feel? No one is perfect and we all make mistakes. That is the point i seem to have failed to make. I think if you have to go that fast to feel good/have fun, keep it on the track not public roads. Again, IMO

Like CC said, i think everyone heres is picturing this on what THEY think a country roads is. CA and NJ are not quite the same as in MO where the poster is from. Out in those areas you can see for miles and prob never even see another car. The biggest danger is an animal running in front of you, not a car pulling out from a black hole since there is NOTHING else around.
Either way, ive seen 135 on my bike and it def got the adrenaline flowing. I doubt ill be doing that again anytime soon but i can see the rush. Theres much more traffic around here, so i keep it a little tamer. Be safe! |

It is pretty hard to imagine though, i cant think of places other than highways around here where you could sustain 135 for more than a couple seconds. Im usually between 40-70 in my "country" roads. But i do remember taking a trip out to the midwest and its just nothing out there. You could go 30 miles on the highway before getting to the next exit. Im thinking this is the type of area OP is around, otherwise, im right there with you. Too much traffic or not enough visibility, etc around here to "safely" do those speeds. |

Last night I was attempting to post the socially acceptable and therefore most politically correct viewpoint.
After reviewing this thread I have decided to change my outlook. I will now post again.... Ride however you please, mike. I'm no saint. I believe that people should largely do whatever pleases them. If the giggles are enough, open that b!tch up and try for 150. *bad mood because woke up to find cat puke on foot of bed crew*

Having moved from North Jersey to the veritable flat lands of the midwest, and having been forced to become acquainted with county roads in rural Missouri, I can indeed verify that it is quite possible that the OP did not see another human being for miles and miles. I would personally never ride (or even drive) that fast on those roads, but that's my choice. The country roads here have far, far less traffic than those in NY/NJ/PA. Even in Iowa, it's not unusual to not see anyone for miles - we went for probably 30 minutes on Sunday before we saw another person.

My comment about another car is logical as such...
Perhaps I was driving through an unfamiliar area. Perhaps I had to urinate. Perhaps I also wanted to have a smoke of some not-entirely-familiar-with-state-laws-plant. Perhaps I intentionally chose an undercover spot to do my business while hiding from view of the road. Perhaps I finished my business and quickly tried to get back on the road from cover as to not alert any law enforcement officers in the vicinity with my suspicious behavior. Then again if there are law enforcement officers in the area perhaps you wouldn't be going so fast. CHAOS THEORY!

The statement above says it all! We all (well most) ride over the speed limit from time to time. The only thing that dictates how much over is rider confidence, visabilty, traffic/road conditions and the possibility of Law enforcement. The OP stated that he is an experienced rider and the conditions were open. I have the same addiction to speed but fear of losing my license (drive for work) keeps the throttle closed. I totally appreciate the image and emotion the OP was expressing and although it was "unsafe" by legal standards he did not have any problems. Just saying I appreciate the need to "get it out of your system" and ride safe the rest of the time
