Who's keeping their current Ninja?

Hey boys,

Was getting excited about the new 2013 ninja 250/300R that's coming out soon. Started running around the house working out how to sell off my 2012 ninja to put the deposit down on a new one.

I have stopped this foolishness! I can't even ride my 2012 that well (still very fresh) So whats the point of scratching up another shinny new bike.
When I'm of my restrictions I'll worry about getting a bigger bike then.

So yeah now that I was sworn fidelity to my bike (My first and only) I'm gonna mod the **** out of it and make it my own.

As my bike is the worst color scheme Kawi has ever put out (2012 SE green with all the blue ****** decals) Tomorrow I'm gonna strip the decals so the bike will end up being green and black only.

Cheers all hope your all having a great day where you are.

Shinny side up boys and girls!

I'll probably pick up one of the new ones if it matches the hype. Your profile still says "none yet", but it sounds like you did pick up a 2012? Here's a link to edit it:

What is it about a new 250/300 that is so appealing to you?

To me would really only be the Fi/ABS plus the digi gauge. As far as HP I feel if I wanted more I would be better off buying a used 96 cbr250rr.

I think one day Ill come back to the 250/300cc market and will be great to see whats around then.

Ah well there is an aftermarket EFI kit (fully tuneable too) and aftermarket digital guage cluster that you could buy and they would likely cost less money than you would lose selling your current bike and buying a new one. As for aftermarket ABS, a pair of sticky tires should do the trick

Kinda dumb to trade in a 250 on a 250. For what the dealers will probably milk you for one, you could get a couple year old 600!

But for you, I'm pretty sure that the TOS states the the current forum mod must always own the current generation ninjette. I do hope you pick one up because I will be looking forward to your expert review

Cheers boys sometimes we just need someone to agree with our decisions to feel like you had made the right one.

Yeah Jiggles I'm looking at the Koso gauge and a Musarri Slip on. How hard would the installation of the FI be do you think?

A slip on??? Cmon man, you can do better than that.

As for the EFI kit, it is a complex installation but there are a few people on this site who have completed it and will help you if you run into any problems. There is a DIY if you want to check it out what it would entail, though I believe the DIY is a bit outdated.

I will likely be installing the EFI kit next year depending one whether racing orgs will let me race with it and as for my mechanical skill level, before I owned a motorcycle I had never used a wrench. It's amazing what you can learn with a great community like this

Does a full zorst need to be installed by a mechanic (does it require a dyno run and jet kit?)

Any modification to intake or exhaust requires rejetting. Slip ons however provide almost no additional power to the bike whereas a full exhaust can give you up to 20% more hp

No clue what a zorst is

You dont have to wait long periods of time for a warmup.
Turn the choke to about 1/2-3/4 on, fire it up and ride off. After about 10 seconds, flip the choke off. Its that simple.
The engine will be at operating temps in under a min anyways, so leaving a bike idling for 5 mins is a complete waste of gas, and doesnt do any good.

I will keep my pregen because it is paid for, I'm emotionally attached to it, and I have other things I want to spend money on, read: new road bike, lots of track days, etc

But a little extra umph would be nice for highway travel. It's all a trade off I guess.

ABS is ok, but not necessary, if those brakes are linked, that's a major turn off for me.

i did the same thing too. how to sell this bike to get a potential 300 version but then I was like..hmm i hate being in debt..i just want to pay everything off and free up my cash, instead of having another loan.

plus i want a supersport next, don't really need a bike thats only marginally better.

I like to gripe about the hype for abs and EFI... you get better hp and a smoother ride on these tiny bikes with carbs. nuff said but on top of that who honestly lacks the skill to work a choke?? the 2 min it takes to warm up is shorter than the amount of time to get geared up. also Like Jiggs said a set of good tires will serve you better than abs plus the weight of the unit...

whatever.. rant over. :P

Oh yeah! and i'm keeping my 250 forever!

I'm still not sure if I care for the looks of it. Need to see one in person. The updated specs are tempting, but mine is paid for. Plus I've just changed jobs and gone back to school, so the prospect of a loan payment is pretty unapplealing in and of it self. Most likely, I'll still be riding my current ninjette for the next few years.

The increased power, spin on filter, larger tires, F.I., abs, and digital gauges. Though most of those can be added easily enough.

No need to trade in or up. Zorak is pulling 53-55mpg and goes wherever I need to go. The 2013 is good but not amazingly-better good, just good. Anyone who wants to go to N.Y., attend the event, win one and gift it to me can change my mind; otherwise I'll stick with the Ninjette I already won

Keeping the 250. I have a couple other bikes I drool over periodically, mainly the Bonneville. But that would be in addition to, not a replacement.

Once I get my jetting dialed in eventually, I'll be satisfied with my 250 and would rather put money into track days.

Sure, the digital gauges and EFI would be nice but I'd rather put my money elsewhere. I barely look at my gauges and I considered buying the Koso gauges at one point, and using the choke in So-Cal weather is not an inconvenience.
