I bought some cheap ebay front brake rotors..
And after a few thousand miles, the front one has warped.
Warning to those in the market for brake rotors. Don't buy the cheap ones on ebay. With that said -- who can recommend a quality aftermarket replacement?

Don't get used, get either a Galfer or and EBC full floating rotor if they make one for your bike.
Odds are a used one will be warped, due to the solid rotor design, I cover this in my write-up. I strongly recommend that every time you change your pads, you service the calipers, he's my write-up to help you out. It should fix your initial problem, and keep your calipers in top working order. I also recommend flush and fill with new brake fluid, also I'd go with 5.1DOT This is the one I use https://m.motul.com/ca/en-us/product...-1-brake-fluid Also inspect the brake lines, replace is needed, http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Stainle..._lines_upgrade Quote:
On my 91 EX500 I have Spiegler, in orange to match that bike. Quote:
When it comes to safety items like brakes, when in doubt, throw them out, it's your safety in your hands, and is cheaper than a visit to the ER. Buy quality pads,I personally recommend EBC brand either the HH, or the Extreme HH. EBC full floating rotor, replace the OEM rubber line with a stainless steel braided brake line, cheaper than replacing them with OEM. On my 500 I have Spiegler line http://www.spieglerusa.com/brakes/cy...line-kits.html On my Ninja 250 i went with Venhill http://www.venhillusa.com/products.html With all that, it will stop on a dime, and leave you nine cents in change. look here http://ebcbrakes.com/products/motorcycle/ And also read this, http://www.ex-500.com/wiki/index.php...otors_and_Pads That should answer any questions you might have.

The EBC floating front rotor is 80 bucks cheaper than the galfer. EBC wins.
Already have SS lines, an a bigger brembo caliper with the SSR bracket. Suppose now would be a good time to order some more pads for the front. Might as well flush the fluids front and rear as well. Thanks guys.

@corksil
do you have any info on which Chinese rotor you bought/had? In my experience, some are good and some are bad and telling them apart can be tricky

I can take a pic of the rotor. The sale was advertised as [one] front rotor and I was surprised when the package showed up containing two front and one rear rotor. With an international customs declaration on the shipping label and a packing slip entirely in chinese.
Low quality steel is low quality steel. I don't know what's going on stateside but out here you used to be paid tonnage for bringing scrap metal to a metal recycling place. Now you have to pay to get rid of it. It's probably going to china and turning into various low quality crap being sold back to amerika. Times are changing.

Ninja says DOT 4 but if you read the Motul bottle it says compatible with DOT 3 or DOT 4 systems.

DOT 5 is Silicone based, and NOT compatible with DOT 3, 4 or 5.1. The brake reservoir is dated information, but DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 is all compatible, I do strongly recommend the system is flushed and filled with new fluid periodically, if not ever pad/calipers service.
