Getting out of storage

So yeah, after pulling off the cover and the battery tender I went to start up my bike. After 9 weeks of sitting there, I wasn't sure how it woud run. So I go full choke, warm it up and proceded to turn off the choke. My bike almost immediately died, so back and forth I let it warm up and tried to turn it off. I managed to get it to half choke, but when I went to add throttle it would try to die again.

I then tried modulate the throttle off and on, and after 30 seconds of that the revs finally had life. I let it warm up another 5 minutes and the problem was solved. I really have no idea what the issue was, but now after riding it for 10 minutes it's fine.

What do you guys think?

Doesn't sound nothing to out of the ordinary. Maybe add a little carb cleaner to the first and second tank of gas, then just ride. You're lucky, my bike has about another 3 1/2-4 months in storage to go yet.

Ya, if it's running fine now then that was normal. Your bike just wasn't warmed up yet and 9 weeks of storage will require extra patience to get this cold-blooded bike going after a long nap. Next time you start it after having it sit in storage, you can try putting a small heater or a 100 watt light bulb in the vicinity of the bike the night before. That should help with getting it warmed up more promptly.

Where would you have to put the lightbulb? on the bottom side of the engine block so that it warms up the oil slightly? confused.

Stay off the throttle until it's fully warmed up. I'm only saying that because that's how my bike likes it, other may have different experience.

How cold did it get there? I checked into some sources in Russia and they leave their bikes out when it's really cold but they also ride them that way. As long as you have a battery tender and the fluids are full and the correct formula for colder temps, it should be fine without the lightbulb.

I thought of a heating pad for mine but it's only been down to -17c so no problems and it'll be going into heated storage next Saturday.

Out of storage? Sigh, I'm jealous!

It was warmed through already when it was trying to die. It was no cooler than 30F for the 9 weeks. It sounds and rides fine now. Thanks for the help guys.

January just started and already out of winter storage? Must be pretty optimistic for the rest of winter.

My fault, I should have been more specific. The light bulb trick is something I learned from a guy who had a Honda Shadow. This only works in an unheated garage for instance. Put a light bulb under the bottom of the engine and throw a ventilated cover over the bike for the night.
