Friend drops bike one day later...

So I bought a 2012 250 and a day later my friend dropped it. He was coming to a stop grabbed the front brake and a hand full of throttle. The bike went down and while the tire was still spinning did a 180 and finally stopped. I am worried about the bike. Could the frame have been damaged?? Opinions please.

First, welcome to the forums. Second, that totally sucks and I would shoot your friend. I'm guessing it was his first time on a bike and they never took the MSF? If that is the case you never should have let him on your bike. If you haven't taken it yet I 1000% suggest going to take the MSF.

As for the frame being bent. I highly doubt it is bent from that. Usually it takes a decent impact to do that sort of thing. If you are truly concerned then you could always take it to a trusted mechanic to have it fully inspected. I would do that anyway to get a full assessment of the damages and then I would confront your friend to pay for the damages he caused to your bike.

Yeah I will never make that mistake again! I have been riding for 20 years. I'm just really OCD and it bothers me that this brand new bike went down. Luckily the only thing I have layed down is a dirtbike(knock on wood). They bike seems to ride fine and the left front fairing has some scratches. I took the fairing off and the bracket for the nut plate is bent( where the headlight fairing meets the left front fairng. Looks like a sub frame coming from the triple tree area.

Welcome Kurt!

Rotten luck you had there. Get it fixed back up, take the MSF if you haven't and be careful out there.

How do you get a bent frame anyways? Does it take a pretty hard hit to do it? Cuz if I can just replace the fairing that would be sweet!

The frame would need to take a significant amount of force. A serious crash can easily bend the frame. However the fairings provide excellent (and expensive) protection to the frame

Yeah, a really super hard hit... I bought my ninjette back in November, and i brought it home opened it up and found out it had a bent frame But it was in the tail section, and i was able to heat it up and bend it back.

I'm not a fan of frame sliders. It was my fault for letting my friend ride. I will never let another person ride my bike. Bikes are like toothbrushes, your not supposed to share. Lesson learned for me.

Sucks man. Welcome to the forums.

I would never let my friends ride my bike. They would have to have some sort of experience...

Of course you wouldn't. You still need to get one and gain that experience yourself man.

I've only let a select few friends ride my bike, and they all have more experience than I do.

Welcome ! A shame about the damage but the frame and other key structural componenets should be fine. For frame damage you usually see other severe damage: bent forks, broken wheels , radiator displacement etc. You would also usually need to run into something. Hopefully your "friend " will man up and pay for the damage.
best wishes, GA

First, welcome to the forum! Secondly, I would've NEVER let a friend ride my brand new bike. That was just asking for him to screw it up. ESPECIALLY if he's never ridden before or hasn't taken MSF.

I highly doubt it was brand new with a bent frame... So, you've been riding for 20 years...?

your frame should be OK, it was only a drop, no major crash, and the bike hit nothing other than the ground, frames are fairly sturdy.

Here is a picture of my frame, from the previous owner after he hit something, he crushed the tubing of the frame, but the frame itself stayed in spec, nothing bent in or out, so I would imagine your bike should just be fine.

no this is not a Ninja frame....

and this is a picture after we welded up a couple of cover plates to close up the crushed area, and primed afterwards, even after welding frame still stayed true and straight.
