Racer from colorado new to 250's

I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. My name is Mat and I am addicted to motorcycles of all kinds. I don' ride the streets any more but do race and ride dirt mostly in the mountains and trails. I also love speed.

I started racing in the MRA here in Colorado in 2006 after doing 2 years of trackdays and did pretty well my first year on a 2004 cbr 600. Raced that bike again in 2007 but had a tough time with it as it was under powered for the expert bikes I was up against so at the end of that season I sold it and built a 2007 cbr 600. Raced that bike all of 2008, part of 2009 and part of 2010. I then took 2011-2012 off to concentrate on other parts of life until this year.

I am just getting back into racing so I thought maybe I would re-train myself like I should have the first time I started racing, on a bike that will teach corner speed then maybe move back up to a 600. Back when I was racing the 04 cbr I had to ride the crap out if it to keep up with the other bikes that had more power so had to learn how to go faster in the corners. I was at the point where I was dragging engine cases on both sides with so much lean angle and it wasnt from not hanging off enough. That makes me think I might be able to ride on of these little bikes and have a ton of fun.

I have done my first race weekend on the little bike and had a blast. It felt like doing my very first trackday all over again. I had so much fun on it that it made my teamate want a 250 so bad we walked around the pits on friday night and buy one for him on the spot (From somebody on this very forum). We both raced them on saturday and sunday and had a blast. I still have a lot of work to do to get back up to speed but will take my time and enjoy all the things I did the first time around.

I have already spent a ton of time hear reading and researching about these little bikes and have learn alot in a very short amount of time. Im sure I will have a ton of questions and look forward to "Talking" to several of you in the future.

That is all

Although they tell me the 250 is fun to ride, I just learned it isn't the fastest in the corners. I was just as surprised as you and everyone else. Crying isn't the answer, I tried it. I guess suspension setup, braking, and early on the gas is what is the fastest in the corners. Who would have thought of that!

Welcome to Colorado, Matt. Don't forget to rejet your bike to high-altitude settings for crisper response.

Peanut- I did see the video he made. Its awesome but I was much to slow to make it into it. Maybe if he had a camera on the back. LOL

Im not new to colorado. I am new to the 250. I have lived here my whole life but raced a cbr 600rr before the 250.

Thanks for all the welcomes. I have learned a ton about these little bikes in a very short amount of time.

Ah. You'll find the Ninja 250 (with a few mild suspension mods) to be the most nimble bike, more so than the 600RR. I've owned a Katana, Superhawk 996, Ninja 500, and my wife a CBR600F4i and we find the 250s to be very compliant. Case-in-point, you can ride to Blackhawk or Cripple Creek wide-open-throttle (LEO permitting) and it'll carve excellently. I've out-maneuvered many a sportbike, choosing the 250 instead of my others.

First choice of business is getting better tires. Plenty of topics on the matter. I recommend the BT003 variety.
