How do you keep your rims clean ?

My rims keep getting dusty and grimy and loose their shine every week and I'm getting a bit tired of it.

What I use is wd40 to clean them.

Does anyone know of a spray or something you can apply to the rims to prevent dirt from sticking to them so easily ?

I don't clean my bike to often, if it gets washed I wash the rims though!

You have a few options:
Clean and wax the rims and stop riding.
Strip the paint and get a chrome finish done. This will only extend the period between cleaning.
Teflon coat and bake. Take care not to scratch.

No amount of detailing or product will stop all the BS on the road for more than several days at most.

Also, take care with that WD-40 man. I don't think that belongs anywhere near the tires.

After a long winter riding in cold salty road conditions my rims were hit, i tried everything to get them to come clean the easy way and it wasn't happening. I just got down to it and scrubbed them damn things for around 45 minutes each wheel to come clean and shiny again, after that i make sure to clean them every time i wash the bike and wipe them down with lucas oils speed wax to keep them all perty, but the first time is the worst you will have to deal with if you haven't kept up with cleaning them. Another thing i did was to switch from chain oils to chain waxes so i do not get all that oil slung on the rims like i did when i used the stuff.

Stop using WD-40. It attracts dirt.
Clean the rims real good. Then use a light spray wax/cleaner. It helps repel brake dust and some road grime. Helps dirt to be easily removed.
When you do regular chain maintenance, check your tire pressure/condition also clean the rim/wheels/brake calipers.

My rims look almost as good as new. They've got a few minor nicks and scratches from normal wear.

I spray good old Pledge furniture 'polish' (it's actually a wax) onto a rag and then wipe down the rims with the rag. The wheels still get oil and dirt on them, but the layer of wax makes road grime easy to wipe off with a rag.

Do *NOT* spray directly onto the wheel as you do not want slippery wax going onto your tires or brake discs!

My black rims were a chalky mess when I finally got powder-coated blue rims. I spent hours trying to clean them. My new blue rims eventually turned black and the stuff just would not come off with soap and water. I noticed that the rag I used to clean my chain would take the grime right off my rims, so I ended up using WD-40 to clean them.

BIG MISTAKE!

It attracts grime like nobody's business. If you use WD-40 you will be cleaning it again every three days. If you need it to get off years of grime, go ahead, but be ready to follow up with something that cuts oil and grease (Dish detergent + Simple Green?).

Do you ride it often? Mine was a daily commuter and the effect of WD-40 on the collection of grime was obvious.

I don't clean them, the only thing I regularly clean is my chain and I let the rain do the rest. My bike could look shinier but then it would just get dirty again so I don't really care to take the time unless I'm heading to take a girl out on a ride or just road through salted roads.

I don't ride it daily, no. When it was in street dress, sure, I rode it often enough but it had black wheels at the time. Now my 250 only sees track miles about 2 weekends a month thus far. Maybe the r6 would be an even better pic. It also has white wheels and been even longer since I cleaned them and it's seeing it's fair amount of street time as of now.

Spray on cloth, wipe wheel area a few times and move on. If I use anything else, like simple green, it takes longer and I have to scrub more and harder to get the same level of clean in the end.

When I first got the white wheels, I used to wipe them off after every ride. It made keeping them pristine white pretty easy. After the novelty wore off, I don't clean them near as often.

Also note, the white wheels on both my bikes were originally black and have been powder coated white.

Dude, WD-40 is great for getting ride of grime. Then use Simple Green to get rid of the WD-40 residue.

Or just use concentrated Simple Green in the first place. That **** rocks.

The use Armour all rim protectant

I learned a trick from motocross racers years ago. Silicone spray. You can spray it on everything except your tires. It makes it really easy to clean later.

don't spray wd40 on them....it is a cleaning agent but it also leaves behind a residue that dirt sticks to. use plain old soap and water then wax them to help keep dirt from sticking.

This is what I've also done my whole life. Its the easiest eay and makes them look brand new when done
