Western PA rider

Hello All,

new motorcycle rider from Grove City (aka the middle of nowhere), Pennsylvania.

Proud owner of a new black 2011 Ninja 250r. Trying to crush some miles before it gets too cold & she's shut down for the winter.

Mods:
Puig DB Windscreen
Solo Seat
MGP Growler Slip-On
Competition Werkes Fender Eliminator Kit
Front Fender Reflector Delete

Soon to come (haven't gotten a good weekend to work yet):
Shogun Crash Kit
Keiti White Reflective Rim Tape
Yoshi Exhaust Hanger, Passenger Peg Delete

Future Wants:
DynoJet Jet Kit (my off-idle is awful as is)
A-Tech CF Hugger
Tyga CF Plastics Kit (side panels, front fender)
Tyga Performance Header mated to my MGP
High Flow Filter
Flush Mount Turns
Stainless Brake Lines
Better Rearsets
Clip-Ons

MTGATT - have an afx helmet & joe rocket armored textile & gloves. need a set of pants/kevlar jeans & boots badly before i will start pushing my limits with the bike.

it's a blast so far, & i'm very happy i bought a 250 instead of a bigger bike - i'm positive i would've wasted myself & my bike already if i was riding a true 600r/636. It's also the first vehicle i've had that's truly mine, so i'm getting the itch for modifications and the like - it's too much fun throwing money away!

Figured I'd give a quick intro. Happy riding,
-bill

Welcome, you are a bit far from me but you are close to the Pitt race track, something you should look into if track days interests you.

Get those miles in now, after the snow hits riding will be crap until late spring because of gravel.

Just some friendly advice you can choose to take it or leave it but, go easy on the mods if you think you might sell the bike in the future, especially near future. If you plan on keeping the bike for many years mods can be fun and be worth it, other wise it is a waste of money IMO.

now go heat up some rubber!

Updates:

just clocked 550 and with the way October's been I'm hoping to go till the end of the month. Have had the thing for about 10 weeks now or so.

- almost died once:
totally my fault - I took a right hander too fast before i was comfortable leaning hard. (this was before i took the MSF course - shouldn't have been riding so spiritedly yet) so i tapped the brakes stupidly - rear slid out a tad - almost high-sided, fortunately i wasn't leaned far enough over that that would have occurred - got upright and back in traction but was about 12 inches a way from going head to head with a mini-van at about 60mph. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid!

- almost got hit low-speed once:
typical mom talking to the kids in the backseat of her van, looked right at me but still went to make a left while i was making a left - i had no stop turning off the main street, she had a stop turning on to it. had both signals on and she knew she screwed up as soon as she did it. gave her a nasty glare but that was that...

but other than that, it's been relatively smooth sailing. starting to get more comfortable leaning into turns, getting better with low speed maneuvering. taken some nice weekend rides all over the Shenango Valley.

worst thing for me for the bike has been it's general anger to not warm up whatsoever and to die revving off-idle. i have to be riding for at least an hour before i can come off idle with out having to blip over the rough first 3k or choke the crap out of the engine to get it to idle higher. I'm guessing that I'm running too lean and my jets are clogged/gummed up (i bet the dealer never cleaned them after they built the bike). I'm assuming i should run some sea-foam and it should get noticeably less temperamental?

sounds decent, be safe.

As far as the warming up... yeah something is off. I ride to work almost everyday, it is low 40's pretty often as far as temp and a handful of minutes to warm up is all that should be needed. Seems like you have an idea of where to start looking, I suggest shimming the carb needles while your cleaning out the carb if already not done. That should help a little.

keep us posted.
