Mid-Life crisis.

Hello, I am new here but have been reading the forums here for a while now. So much excellent information, ty all for that.

I don't have a Ninja yet, but I am working on it. A friend has a bike she bought in 2000 brand new. She rode it a total of 623 miles over a five year period. It has been sitting in her garage since 2005. I am buying it because i think it is a helluva deal at $1000. Brand new still less the broken mirror and broken right turn signal mount bracket. These were apparently broken while it was parked because the paint is still flawless. Its the red version instead of the great Kawi green, but beggars cant be choosers I guess.

Anyway, my wife is calling this my mid life crisis...buying a crotch rocket at the ripe age of 39. I disagree with her, I just dont want to be that guy who started riding in his forties. Nope, started in my thirties i did. Haha!

For now I wait to take ownership until she can get the title straightened out. One of those divorce thingies she has to get worked out to get his name off the title. Hopefully in the next week or two I'll be the proud new owner of that poor neglected 250R that I will be naming Susie II.

I look forward to more great reading and thanks to all for all the great discussions that can be found here.

I didn't see it as a mid-life crisis... I was just tired of trying not to do something I knew was dangerous, but knew I would love. Treated sportbikes like heroin - knew I would like it, so I never even gave it a thought because I know the consequences. At this point in life, I was tired of avoiding something that was tugging at me heart strings for more than 10 years. Now I wished I would have done it when I was a teenager - I would easily be in MotoGP by now... or at least faster at the track.

When I bought mine (at age 42) my wife told me that if I crashed and ended up paralyzed she'd divorce me. Sounded like a good deal to me.

This is exactly what I feel like I did, rode dirt some as teen but only 2 times on streets on old cruisers. Then finally at 38 said screw it, I'm going for it
Sometimes though I still find myself going faster than someone my age should be on public roads (mostly Interstate) ... I'm not fast on the twisties yet.

Welcome! I try to have a mid-life crisis every couple of years.... I like getting nice things! Late 40's here... got back into riding last year after 20 years. Interesting to note too, half of my MSF class was older than me.

Thanks all for the kind welcome. Now I just have to wait patiently to get my bike. I am a bit worried about the issues it might have from sitting so long, but with so few miles and it has been undercover, I will hope for the best.

damn... my mid life crisis started at 19... for what it is worth the baby ninja is hardly a "crotch rocket" it just plays one on TV. It's more like a really good looking scooter. Awesome for commuting and spirited driving through the twisties. Maybe that will make her feel better????

:-) hopefully all goes well and welcome!

Lol, true that, she refers to the crotch rocket because of the styling. She would much prefer a cruiser of sorts, but when a good deal lands at my feet, i cant pass it up. I am sure i could double my money if I decided to sell it.
