Does this look like 148 mph to you? Whilst he is going a bit quicker than the cars I am having trouble believing the police video figures.

It's hard to tell 148 from 142 but I'm going with 142. I'd fight that insisting on having the copper's video figures varified

I do quite a lot of motorway in the UK and general traffic 'flow' seldom exceeds 70 by much. I gauge him more in the 95 to 100 bracket, certainly not 78mph faster than the traffic. No way.

there aint no way. i've done 150 plenty of times. that's MAX 120. when he passed by the car it was closer to 80

I was under the impression that they claim to be all refined by using the MKS system.

plus that looks to be the speed of the bobby, not the speed of the suspect... in the frame where they pause and show a buck 48... the persuing unit is catching up to the suspect at a pretty good clip.

First off, the 148 mph is the rate of speed of the officer himself and not the motorcyclist in front of him. The officer has a closing rate of ~ 40 mph. If the suspect were to be going 148 mph, then the officer is operating a WSB class super bike to chase him down. We can also tell that the speed measuring device is not operating in forward scan but is slaved to the officer's speedometer. Those times when the officer isn't lined up with the rider, the speed doesn't shift or change for the suspect shifting out of frame and the speed remains constant with the officer's rate and not what's going on in front of him. Otherwise, according to the officer's own evidence, they were either in the middle of a NASCAR lap or his equipment was malfunctioning. The parts where the motorcyclist gets out from in front of the officer would have the cars going 116 mph along with the semi-trucks as well. This should be an easy case to shoot down if the guy had a lawyer that wasn't sleeping or a judge that apparently wasn't corrupt and trying to bring his personal feelings of hatred against bikers and threw the book at him and probably levied a nice fat fine as well.

No we still use MPH and Miles though unfortunately had kilogrammes and litres imposed on us so MPG calculations have to involve a conversion factor.
I still have my imperial socket spanner set too, just in case I decide to restore a Frogeye Sprite, or Triumph TR3
I was disappointed when the Australians surrendered to kilometers, (bloody Sydney cosmopolitan liberals I expect) I thought the land of mad max would be the last holdout of imperial.

TR3 was my first car. I don't remember it going 148mph. I do remember it feeling like it was going 148mph. I didn't get my first ticket until I upgraded (a word not allowed on this forum) to a XK150S. That car was fast for way back then, even though it was already an old car when I had it.

At times when the displayed speed is way up in the 100s they seem to be keeping up with traffic.

Unless the regular traffic flow there is in the 100s of miles an hour, it looks like the numbers are a little off.

Nope, when he was following the bike at an indicated speed of 110-115, they were hardly going 20mph faster than traffic. There's no way.

Exactly, At risk of repeating myself it is ALL in Miles per hour. The UK DOES NOT USE KILOMETERS at all, despite the fact that Several Americans here seem to think we do

My Subaru and Ninja can.

Is it possible to hack the system to display MPH when set to KPH?

Is that spelled out clear enough for you to understand?

Something is a miss here. There is NO WAY that is 148mph. The environment tells the tale. The dashes between the lanes, the poles holding up the guardrail, how fast trees and signage goes by. To anyone who has "actually" been traveling 150mph, it's all too obvious. But if you know the distance between the dashes painted on the road, you can begin to calculate speed based on how long it takes to pass between them.

Assuming anything remotely close to the US, each dash is 10ft long and the distance between dashes is 30ft. If you slow down the vid, the chase officer was actually doing 148mph for a brief moment to catch the lead bike, but clearly... the bike was not traveling that same speed.

1 I don't know, my car still uses bendy wire and a dial This is the official police speed gear not the car/ or bike speedo.

2 I doubt a cop would actually hack his radar gun. if he had those electronic skills he would probably have a better job
