Riding year cut short....

Welp this a 1st for me......

Helmet stolen right off bike!!!
The straps were cut right from the under rear seat!!

Not that upset about the helmet, it was an EXO-1100 and I wasn't that happy with it..but it worked great.

2 worst parts... A) I couldn't ride home (lucky officer was a rider and went to his house to get me helmet to use and followed me home where I gave back to him)
and B) Mostly pissed that I won't be able to afford a new one until next Feb... spare cash is hard to come by w 5 kids

Just hope whoever stole it enjoys the feel and smell of my sweaty head... as I had been riding all day in 90+ degree day!

Please use my misfortune as your lesson.... NEVER leave helmet on bike even using the most secure way you can to keep it on bike!!!!

Really ? what the freak is wrong with people, uggh. who needs a helmet that bad that they intentionally cut the straps on it. Purdy sure that makes the helmet useless now that they can't strap it on.

Nice find w that scorp... I found the scorps to be a bit to short in chin area, Chin was always touching the front of that exo-1100...so doubt I'd get another.

I was out of job for 4mo's and still playin catch up, so money really tight...even a mear $75 is hard to come up with for at least a few months.

I wear a med size in helmets Scorp/Shoei and the only 2 I've really had ..so not sure what else fits similar.

That sucks.. I've gotten used to carrying my helmet with me when I park the bike for an extended period of time and I can't keep it within my view..

I just checked, and all of the "spare" helmets I have are size Large.. Someone has to have an old Medium laying around being unused that's only worth the cost of shipping..

I would like to get another Shoei, but that's not in cards just yet.

Shoei's fit me perfect and was super light on my neck....the Scorp fit about the same just shorter in chin area.

Anyone know how that 410 fits compared to exo-1100?? Or another brand fits similar to Shoei's?

To me, the 410's chin area sits a bit lower than the EXO-1100.. My primary helmet is a Shoei X-12, and my primary backup is an EXO-1100.. I tried on a 410 last week just to see how they felt.. It's not a bad helmet for the price, but it's no Shoei either..

Frakin awesome!!! I like it and fit is pretty good!!

and good on you @adouglas for finding that crazy helmet deal, I'm considering getting one as a passenger/spare helmet to replace my aging out hjc with a broken visor clip (it works until you try to open it up all the way then it comes off on one side)

Would it be an issue that the helmet may be sitting in storage for 2+ years now? I know there are myths about how long a helmet lasts. Some say replace after X number of years, etc.

I'm thinking about picking one up as well

5 years, you can still use it after that but I wouldn't and they don't allow anything over 5yrs at the track (if they check it, and they will if you're racing less likely to if it's a track day)

5 years sounds good to me!!! Assuming these were made in 2013, we still have 3 good years of usage.

I can personally tolerate 2 years. By the 3rd year, the smell is too pungent. I think my head farts when it's in the helmet. I swear, if I ever have to torture someone, I'll just tie them up in my basement and put my helmet on them and close the face shield.

That's what these are for.

Easy to find in very thin, cool summer-weight fabric (e.g. Coolmax). They are NOT hot to wear.

Advantages:
- Wearing one every time you ride, plus machine washing the liner at the end of the season, keeps your helmet like new year after year. The only discoloration on my liner is where my cheeks contact the liner fabric.
- Covering your ears keeps your earplugs/buds from getting dislodged when you pull your helmet on.
- On super-hot days, just get it wet before putting your helmet on. Instant evaporative cooler. Seriously... you can feel COLD.

Disadvantages:
- Takes an extra ten seconds to get geared up.
- Can't think of anything else....

I just started wearing a liner. It feels better,and my new long hair stays out of my eyes! much nicer than just a helmet on your head

I've even considered recycling old T-shirts and making my own.

Cycle Gear sells skull caps cheap, and whenever I spot a balaclava for a decent price I grab one. (The Cycle Gear winter balaclava is excellent, but they don't have a hot-weather one.) I have a drawer full of the things at this point... like socks.

I have them for winter. Windproof and waterproof. Extremely warm (definitely too hot for summer). I just don't have any experience with summer gear. Just thought to get your advice since you have the experience.

Unfortunately not all helmets have a 5 year life. Some will only last about two years before the impact absorbing material dries up. Check the offered warranty period on the specific model helmet and add about a year to that for safe use
