New Ninja... NOT impressed
Hey everyone!
Sooooooooo.. I just wanted to express some feelings and rant just a bit.. This monday, I picked up my brand new black, 2011 Ninja 250. I had a hotbodies undertail installed ad the dealership along with some frame sliders. After signing all the papers, im directed to the back where the bike is... At first glance, LOOKS GREAT... Then I take a closer look. The rear seat has a big gap and does not sit flush with the tail of the bike. The HB undertail has a crack in it... I point them out, and the dude says he will order another undertail, call me when it comes in, and fix the gap and replace the undertail, free of charge. All is well, so I ride off... Get about 2 mins away, and i realize my tachometer isnt working. I pull a U-ie, and walk back into the shop and tell the dealer the issue. He says they will fix it when I being the bike in to get the undertail fixed. I say okay.. and leave. I rode the bike over the weekend, and went for my first night ride today. I go to switch on my high beams... and guess what. NOT WORKING! ANDDDDDD to top it all of, I also find out that when I apply my rear brake, MY TAIL LIGHT DOES NOT TURN ON!.. ALLL of these issues have me quite upset. Im also worried about what else can go wrong with the bike later down the road. If ive found soooo many issues already, im worried that there may be some more serious ones that will arise. I love the bike. Looks great, im just very unhappy with the way things started off with it. Has anyone else had any issues like this? Anyone have any input? |

I have a sneaking suspicion that this dealer messed something up with the electrical when installing the undertail. Is that the one that has the small blinkers in it?

Dont get me wrong, I just got the bike, put 200KM on it already, I LOVE IT. Its just that all my happiness and excitement is drown out by the frustration of knowing so much has gone wrong with this bike already. Hopefully, after I bring it in, they will fix everything and it will run smooth from then on.. Cuz im planning on keeping this baby for a WHILEEEE |

Sounds like the dealer is one I'd never ever ever ever visit again. I hope everything works out in the end, it's really a great bike! Don't fret the small stuff and enjoy the ride.

sorry to hear the dealership raped you so hard. dont stand for that **** and tell them they have a week to fix it, or get you a new bike that works flawlessly, or you are going to file complaints with the BBB and kawasaki and bad mouth them every chance you get.
motorcyclists are tight knit groups. if someone is bad mouthing a dealership, other people hear about it. be vocal; you'll get taken care of.

^^ what he said. I'd be pissed if I bought a bike from a dealer and it wasn't PERFECT. They obviously need to fix it and then give up something to make up for their f*ck up. If they sell gear try to get some free stuff.

What I've learned in my digital electronics engineering class. One wire in the wrong place, could mean the end of the world. Lift the seat up, and look for something that looks out of the place. Use the wiring schematic.

The dealership is at least assuming and accepting the responsibility. A lot of these things happen when people install things. Forgetting to connect a wire, not a big deal. The gap in the pillion, sounds about normal. As for the cracked undertail, perhaps it was a genuine mistake. I'd be happy that the dealership is going to fix it (yes, I know there is downtime, but still) instead of saying, "hey you signed the papers, not my problem." And yes, I have been to dealers that are like that. The high beam.. Well I can't say anything about that, perhaps you got a defective bulb. Worst comes to worst, look up the lemon law for your state.

The dealership definitely screwed up.
On the other hand, you should have done, at very least, a standard T-CLOCK check before signing papers and riding off....

I feel for you brah, my local kawi dealer does good work but painfully slow, expensive and they like to argue about warranty coverage.

Also, you will soon receive a survey and comment card from kawi in the postal mail. Where you can rate the bike and dealer. Make sure you fill that out, as it most likely will make it back to them.

Not sure about your state, but bikes must pass a state inspection prior to a sell. My dealership made sure my brand new bike worked before it rolled out the door. They performed another quick courtesy inspection before they gave me the keys. Your dealership should at least have done a courtesy walk through on a brand new bike. If nothing else you could have requested it.

Sounds like they probably gave the delivery guy the job of installing and setting up your bike as learning experience. He screwed up (which is gonna happen). As long as they make it right its no biggie.
Its the dealership though. Not the bike. |

what they all said. If you got it from a dealer, its their responsibility. Make them take care of it.

Having them admit to all is good, although it shows why they didn't do the "walk around" with you before signing. Electrical problems on cages, even goldwings, can be nightmarish but with the ninjette they should be able to sort you out. One thing to remember is dealerships forget you once you drive off the lot, you must be pro-active and keep your frustration in your pocket. You can always call in the brick masons down the road.
There's that pisture again, I think from Kentucky, where the bike is up and rider over instead of the opposite. What is that? |
