Fixed the clutch lever rattle but ...
Hi, by reading other posts in this forum I managed to fix the clutch lever rattle issue on my Ninja 300. However, after putting the plastic washers and tightening the pivot bolt I found that I put a little more force than needed in there.
As a result, the bolt and nut are now spinning together. If I hold the bolt, the nut spins forever and does not loose or tight. The same happens if I hold the nut and try to tight the bolt, it spins forever. I went to the dealer and he said that I messed the threads located in the aluminum part where the pivot is screwed. He also said there is no security risk for me as the bottom nut will not come out. However, the pivot is very loose and I am able to spin it with my fingers. How can I fix this ? Any help would be very much appreciated. |

Get a new nut an bolts, don't over tighten... It's never a good policy; it makes things break.

Welcome!
I did the same thing to mine. Your choices; safety wire it a nylon nut replace the bolt with a slightly longer one and double nut it (tighten the nuts together) put some loctite on it

Thanks for the replies.
Assuming I manage to get a new Bolt and nut, I'm wondering how can I remove the damaged bolt or nut as they only spin left or right and don't get loose or tight. How can I remove it ? Another question is: Do you think that I have somehow damaged the Clutch perch, specifically the hole where the bolt is put when I overtight it ? Do I need to replace the perch ? I'm really confused guys. Your support is fully appreciated. |

They spin because they only create a pivot point. The bolt threads into the lower part of the perch and the nut locks it all in place by bracing the bolt a second time against the perch. Did you damage it? Yes, does it need to be replaced? No... Now that the threads in the perch are completely bunk... embrace it and just do one of the repair options I noted above.
A pair of vice grips on the bolt head and the proper sized wrench on the nut will aid in it's removal. Just keep pulling up and turning to the left, and it will work itself out after what is left of the threads are out of the way.
