Just adjusted valves for the first time!

Took the bike apart last night, then adjusted the valves and put it back together today after work. It's the most I've dug into the bike thus far and it feels great knowing I didn't kill it. haha
Now I just gotta sync the the carbs and I'll be a happy camper!

Good on 'ya Slick! I can only think of a couple things that feel better than wrenching on a bike.

It's therapy to me.

It was actually easier. I'm pretty comfortable doing things mechanically but I've never done any engine work before, so I was a bit apprehensive. But once it was all over I found myself thinking, "And I was actually going to pay someone $175 to do that for me?" It was well worth saving the money.

Great job! Would you post a link to the guide (if any) that you used? Its likely I will have to do this somewhere down the line.

Thanks!

Sure!
I used trusty ol' faq.ninja250.org

Here is the main guide:
http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/What_is...t_procedure%3F

This acted as a nice supplement:
http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Hints_%...lve_Adjustment

And this video acted as a nice visual aid in times where I needed clarification:

Link to original page on YouTube.

In the video, he actually takes off the entire radiator but as stated in the guide, I found that wasn't necessary. I simply took off the radiator mounting brackets and let it swing freely by its hoses. That way I didn't have to drain the coolant, and could still move it over a little bit when I needed more room to get some tools in there.

Not that I know what I'm talking about, but I do know that in that video the way he is adjusting the valves is not the way Kawi instructs. I did my first valve adjustment a few weeks ago and referenced that video on this board. Everyone seemed to frown upon it. He's basically positioning the cam lobes in a random up position. If you follow the way kawi tells you (which is actually easier and less work) the lobes will be facing left and right. Plus you only have to crank the engine twice for the entire adjustment, instead of 8 times to do all 8 valves. Crank it once, do the left cylinder. Crank it a second time, do the 2nd cylinder and you're done. Makes checking the work before you close everything up that much faster and easier too. Then again I trust faq.ninja so I'm sure you're fine. But like i said, I don't really know what i'm talking about :P
