Dope! Imma get one and wire a usb charger on the bike. I will have to do my homework on that version to ensure a 32gig card will work.

from the help app

Quote:
Recording when directly connected to a PC
With this camera, it is possible to charge the battery and record at the same time while connected to a PC.

In order to record video while the camera is connected to a PC, the video recording must be started before the camera is connected to the PC. It is not possible to record if the camera is turned on while connected to a PC. Likewise it is not possible to take pictures while the camera is connected to the PC.

Breaking the Rules
As stated in the introductory, this camera only supports micro SD and micro SDHC Memory cards. These cards are formatted in FAT32, which is the format the camera requires. Microsoft has imposed an artificial limit on the maximum capacity of the FAT32 file system of 32GB even though, theoretically, a limit of 2 Terabytes is possible.

Large capacity micro SDXC (XC=Extended Capacity) cards start with a capacity of 64GB. It is not possible to read these cards with normal SD or SDHC card readers, which includes this camera. SDXC cards can only be read with special SDXC card readers. SDXC cards placed in a normal SD(HC) reader may be recognized by the operating system, but will be found to be unformatted, which is not correct. If formatted using Windows, they will probably be formatted with 16GB total capacity!

SDXC cards will be recognized correctly if used in an SDXC card reader and the file system will be exFAT. The maximum capacity of exFAT is 2 Terabytes.

If you use the "In-Camera Formatting" to format your SDXC cards, you do so entirely at your own risk. The Manufacturer takes no responsibility for incorrectly formatted cards and the consequences that may arise (for example destroyed cards). SDXC cards formatted with FAT32 are not supported by Microsoft and you will possibly invalidate your card's guarantee by doing so.

Using In-Camera Formatting it is possible to format SDXC cards in FAT32 Format. Doing so will turn the cards into out-of-specification SDHC cards. However, you will have the advantage of much higher card capacities. For example, a 64GB SDXC card formatted with FAT32 will give you about 20 hours of continuous video when recorded with a data rate of 7 Mb/s. After formatting with FAT32 these cards will be recognized by Windows using normal SD(HC) card readers, which includes this camera, to their full capacity. Note that the max. file size of 4GB still applies.

SDXC cards formatted with FAT32 may be converted back to exFAT by using SDFormatter but an SDXC card reader must be used.

I'm thinking it'd be neat to have something small and simple to help align the different views I want for my track days. Trying to go the Jiggles route and get all the angles! LOL

The beauty of these little guys are the mounting options. You can mount them anywhere with a bit of industrial velcro. But for the track, I would go the extra step of safety wiring them or add a zip tie to secure them.

I am not sure about simplifying things though.... with multiple cams in obscure places, I would forget to turn a few on. lol

I used a twisty tie to the usb cable. but after a few hundred miles the velcro has yet to fail.

The 808 #16v2 with lens D is the way to go. I glued two small watch battery size magnets on the bottom of mine and bought a handful of some magnetic name badge holders off ebay. You can glue the name badge holders to lots of things... like your helmet and the camera just snaps on and off, easy peasy.

An interesting note about the 808 16v2 cameras... if you load the AVI firmware, it will record in files that are 5:00.9 seconds long.... every 5:00.0 minutes. So there will be a 0.9 second overlap between files. Makes it extremely easy to stitch together multiple videos and not miss a frame. When your memory card gets full, it is supposed to loop and overwrite the old files. I dunno, I haven't filled my 32gig card yet.

The MOV firmware seems to miss about 3 seconds of video when it changes files.

Also, if you turn off sound, it doesn't record a soundtrack at all, which saves a little memory.

Finally a small all black camera I can hide on my all black bike to record incase of an insurance claim but not attract a cops attention to use as evidence against me

I just need it to loop and record as I charge it so I can just leave them on the whole time. Will this #16v2 do this?

Can you see it under my headlights? If you look right at it you can, but it will not jump out at you.

records on power

looping is an option but I have not filled a card to test

How do you connect the camera to the battery for continuous charging? Is the USB charger connected directly to the battery or is there some kind of relay/ switch/converter between the battery and the camera?
Does this make sense? I am a total noob with electrical things but really interested in doing this.

@rojoracing53 It does loop. You can set it to different time length files and I set mine to 5 minuet files. After 5 hours my card was full and it stared deleting the oldest file to make room and keep recording.

That's so sweet. I might have to get one. I can't afford a GoPro or Contour cam and honestly I don't care about super-omg-hd quality, I just want something that will record my mistakes and that I can look at to get better.

Would these mount easily to a helmet?

I was hesitant about getting the 808 keychain because 1 hour of battery is kind of weak. But your method is the best I've seen!

Thanks @rasta
Wired the port inside the fairings from the battery back to the tail then from the tail to the instrument panel and just velcro on any spot that looks good. It is a short trip for the usb cable from there to under the head light. I velcroed the camera and the usb cable.
Used 3m dual lock
