Replacement Spark Plug Removal Tool
Hello, all..
My bike didn't come with the stock tool kit. I used a friend's tool to remove the plugs when I adjusted the valves. I'm working on a tool kit for some summer road trips I've planned, and I can't find a replacement removal tool anywhere that isn't $15-20+ for the stock piece by itself.. I've heard a simple flex joint and 1/4in extension will do the trick, but I won't see my bike for another couple weeks due to college.. So, without removing the tank, is the stock tool the ONLY option?

there is a motion pro deep well spark plug tool that might get it.
i actually had bought one for a KTM then i gave it to the guy when i sold the bike, like a dummy, otherwise i'd try it out and let you know that it fits. This ought to work, and you can put one in your bike and one in your toolbox. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131223791608 |

Only thing is that both of those suggestions appear to be shorter than the stock piece and offer less leverage.
I may pick that up just to try though.. Any other suggestions?

If you properly torque the spark plug around 17ftlbs you won't need more leverage.

The head's thread of these diminute spark plugs are the weakest links of these engines.
Avoid manipulating those without removing the tank as much as possible. Looking from above while starting the thread is key to avoid accidental crossing and permanent damage. Those plugs will last for ever in a healthy engine. Valve adjustment requires tank removal and is the perfect moment to install two new plugs.

his handle says fool but this is sage advice. cross threading that baby little thread at the bottom of a long dark hole will kill the heck out of your engine. by the time you remove the tank it probably wont take any more time than the time you'd spend fumbling around... greater risk of wrecking plug wires... etc.

I have a 12 inch long fuel hose I use to start all my spark plugs, the hose will slip before crossing threads., it only grips around the ceramic insulator.

Thank you, folks! Everyone has been very helpful.
It appears I won't be searching for a cheap tool.. I will be learning how to quickly and competently remove the tank! Seems to be the most effective way about it!
