Changing Spark plugs w/o removing gas tank?
Ummm, the other week after work...
***Do you HAVE to take the gas tank OFF, to safely change the spark plugs?*** I took off the side fairings to change out the spark plugs. Well i noticed theres NO ROOM to do so, unless you need a "special wrench or socket". Those spark plug boots are Looong man! Rather than risk dropping something into the spark plug cavity, i just put the boots back on, the fairings and called it a day. I dont have a garage where i live, i live on a dirt road thats like 20 feet from the apartment. So working on the bike puts the Hoaring amount of DUST in the air, in danger of settling into engine areas if worked on outside. Cant work on it at work, afterwork. Owner doesnt want your crap in the way if you end up, having to leave your vehicle overnight, etc. *As far as long labor hours are req'd for maintance/repairs* I've changed oil in my bike and my car, at work, after work. Thats NP, but quite simply, I dont have the luxary of working on vehicles in a timely fashion, where it can sit there for weeks if need-be! thanks. |

I did mine without taking off the gas tank.
Use the tool from your factory included tool kit. It's got an articulated part in the middle so you can sneak it in under the tank, get it into the spark plug hole and then straightens out when its fully down in there. Sounds dirty but it works. |

The wrench from your toolkit is the only way to go. The ONLY way.
And it works like a charm. Easy. |

Use the tool provided in the bike's toolkit. It's the only thing that works without removing the gas tank and the cylinder head cover.
Heck, even if you did remove the gas tank and the cylinder head cover, use the tool. If you really need "ratcheting" abilities, just use a 14mm (I think) ratcheting combination wrench on the nut on the tool.
