Empire is probably the best, but I am a Jedi fan personally.

Episode 1...Darth Maul was one of the best Sith lords and it was cool to see the origins of Anakin/Darth Vader.
In general it was just so fun to watch with the modern filmography and proper CGI.

Part of why I like Return of the Jedi is the speeder bike chase scene. I'd sell an eyeball for one of those things :P

I'm back to support my commitment to Jedi being my favorite despite Empire being a better movie.
Part of it is simply that it is the redemption arc of the story. I mean you see Vader, finally as a person (not the crusty white dude part but the humanity while in the suit). The scene after his and Luke's conversation on Endor after turning himself in. You can practically feel how torn Vader is, conflicted like crazy and the trying to deny it to himself. And then it cultivates as his child is get brutalized by his master right in front of his eyes. He was beaten in battle, his walls of pride and selfishness torn down, and the love for his kid can take him over. The whole "final confrontation/battle" scene with Luke and Vader in front of Palpatine to me was very well done. Williams score and the way it was shot, you can feel the emotion. I never will forget that as kid. Empire did more as a story to move the trilogy forward, had more and better surprises, it wasn't a feel good, the "bad guys" were in flexing their muscle. Yoda/Degobah did so much to suck you in to Luke's development. The battle of Hoth, Cloud City, ...... I mean Empire was probably the better move. But was emotionally tied to Jedi, and that trumps it lol.

if the ewoks were wookies, jedi would have been the best. but there was only one yoda, who was pretty bad-ass anyway. most of the other puppets either died or tore someone apart. so empire.... the best of the star wars.

Hard to really pick a favorite.......it's one of those trilogy's were if I see one I have to see them all.
New Hope was always a good one to me.....it is the beginning of the greatness that is Star Wars. |

Empire Strikes Back all the way.
The second trilogy were all somewhere between dreadful and meh. First, there was the JarJar Binks fiasco, which was a straight-up embarrassment. Second, there was the completely unnecessary move of explaining The Force and thereby removing every shred of its coolness. Third, there was wooden acting from everyone in sight. Fourth, plot and storytelling took a back seat to special effects (a rampant trend in pretty much every blockbuster for the past 15-20 years... how many visually spectacular but utterly hollow movies have we been subjected to?). Darth Maul could have been interesting if they'd bothered with character development AT ALL. As it was, it came down to funky makeup, a cool fight scene, and nothing else. No-thing. We got more out of Darth Vader in the first two minutes of his on-screen appearance than we got out of the entire Darth Maul presence. On the other hand, there was Natalie Portman. Never mind. Yawn. As far as Return of the Jedi goes, I want to flatten every last Ewok with a big mallet. In addition, they killed off one of the most potentially interesting characters in the whole franchise -- Boba Fett -- in a really stupid way before ever giving the character a chance to develop. Both of those take the third movie out of the running for me. On the other hand, there was that bronze bikini.... Empire is space opera at its finest. Powerful character development, strong plot lines, betrayal, redemption, sneaky plots, revelations that blow you away, the odd bit of humor (I love the fact that the Millennium Falcon sounds like a '65 Chrysler with a weak battery trying to start up)... the whole nine yards. Definitely the best, with Episode IV a close second. HAN SHOT FIRST, dammit.

Gotta agree with Adouglas. The Droid army were easier to kill then the victims of the Jayson movies and the little jedi just lucking into sooo many situations (like being able to knock out a base ship from the inside almost by accident) was just too much. There were a few really cool creatures (special effects) but that was covered above. When it comes to Carie Fisher VS Natalie Portman. That is just a matter of personal taste. Personally i prefer the the girl in the ripped, skin tight shirt to the bronze bikini but again --personal preference! I love the fact that the good guys lost and everything went wrong in Empire! The Falcon was broken-- Luke got his A-- kicked and lost a hand-- Vader was a dad-- The Rebel Base over run and destroyed --- Whats not to like. This was the first movie where i just could not wait to see the next one. I had to know what would happen next! Return of the Jedi was great and wrapped everything up in a nice tight bow but did not keep you at the edge of your seat like the predecessor. Empire was the last 4 laps of a tight race while Jedi was the victory lane celebration!

A New Hope was good, but it lacked a bit.
Empire was by far the best movie. Jedi was great in its own right as well. I just really disliked the ending with all the Ewoks dancing to that horrid music. I loved the speeder chase seen on Endor. I always wanted one (second to an X-wing of course) as a kid. Heck, I'd still take either! My vote is Empire.

my mom was friends with the bronze sculpter who did most of the bronze work for the movies including the han solo carbonite slab, the bronzed leia costume, and lots of small little trinkets used on jabba's ship. i actually attended a few of his classes and he taught me how to make wax scuptures and set them up for bronzing... i was too young at the time to help with the actual foundry stuff but i got to cast the molds with the salty glue cast making stuff... i forget his name now.
