Flush Mounts?!

I have been looking high and low for good flush mounts, I found a set on Ebay that had promise. Sure enough I get them and they are too large to fit into the indented region our bikes have for our stock turn signals.

Asian Cycles has been out of business for how long. So does anyone have any other options that they know work? This is just my commuter bike so I don't need some "Super Awesome LED" set for $$$.

Yea I have those flushmounts also. I never installed them b/c the figment was so bad. I just tinted the lenses.

I think I have the same ones. What i did is used the original base plate to mark aup a piece of clear 1/8 inch plexiglass plate that fits into the indentation and mount the flushmount without the provided rubber gasket.

I had debated machining a plate to fit and then powdercoating it black, wasn't sure how it would look. Thanks!

@n4mwd made a DIY on turn signals. I think they were flushmounts. I remember a really detailed Youtube video. I'll let him post about it because he knows more about it than I do.

I have the same ones off eBay. I ended up tracing the original base on some old street sign and then powder coating the pieces. I then took the rubber gasket off the bottom of the light and ground the base of the light to make it sit more flush. It took a while but turned out decent.

Can someone please tell me if there is an easier way to upload photos than placing them in photobucket and pasting the url

So it seems the general consensus is to make a back plate to lift the turn signals just slightly out of the indented region.

I am an engineer in a machine shop and have one more semester of school left, so producing these should be pretty easy

In retrospect, it would have been easier to use the router table with the original base as a pattern to cut the wood pattern - rather than manually sanding one out.

Here's how I did mine. I positioned the light so it was straight across the top and the edge that overlaps I ground off a little. I think a thicker piece of Plexiglas might have been a better solution because it's thicker but I was using what was on hand

mine didnt fit all the way as well, i said **** it and just took a razor blade and shaved off some of the black plastic, they fit fine now

Those look pretty nice which ones are they? Did you use the stock bulbs and do you have pics from the front?

Those are much better than the ones I have seen.

Looks like the tell-tale sign is the lens mounting screw at the front, not the back like the more common ones that don't fit well.

Those are knockoffs of the old asiancycle flushmounts that I have. Only mine are color matched to my bike.

I like how they are more square and stick out a bit more then some of the others. Is madhornet a legit site? That's cool you got them color coated I wish asiancycle was still around.

My first Ninjette post! Glad to be here...seems like a great community.

Just bought my first Ninja 250 (2007 EX) and the first thing I want to do is get rid of the hideous front turn signals. These flush mounts look like the way to go, but does anyone know if there is there any drilling involved or do they just screw right on?

Depends on which ones you get. The roundish ones in the first photo in this thread required a little bit of drilling, in my case. The studs for mounting them are closer together than the stock signals, so you have to drill a hole for one of them. No biggie, IMO. I also found that I needed to trim the upper edge of them to get them to fit flat against the fairing, and solder on new connectors, as they just come with bare wires. Again, no biggie.

I'd rate installing them at about a 2.5 out of 10 on the difficulty scale. It takes a little doing, but not much.

If you can get them, those would be the best. They are hard to find, but if those people have them, then go for it. I recommend clear over smoke because smoke just reduces the intensity of an already dim bulb. You want people to see you when you signal.

Right, I was thinking about that. The smoked signals look like the light from the already dim bulbs would hardly get through the glass/plastic. I'll probably go with clear.

I ordered a set from mad hornets. I got a shipping confirmation the next day. They are being shipped from China via UPSP "international letter" package. I hope they don't get hung up in customs. I will post up when I get them regarding quality, fitment, part number, and lead time for the shipping.

I want to go riding this weekend, so I came up with plan "B" for some ghetto flush mounts using two small amber LED marker light from Autozone mounted to the stock base plates. I can change them out when the ones from mad hornet come in.

Came out pretty good, now I need to do the dash bulb indicator light diode trick because all 4 signals flash from feedback. I will pick up the diodes from radio shack today and do the mod tonight.

Were the mad hornet ones LED? They looked like bulbs. You wont need the diode mod for bulbs.

Yeah, Kawasaki engineers were trying to be cute with that turn signal circuit. It depends on the turn signals themselves being more wattage than the indicator bulb. That's not always the case with LEDs.

China? I didn't realize Madhornets was a china company. It takes about a month to get anything from there. I've gotten stuff as quick a week, but that was with epacket. And of course, it always comes with a customs declaration of "gift" for some reason.

A lot of companies list business address' in the USA, but don't actually have a warehouse here. I buy a lot of stuff from DDM Tuning for example (HID light kits). When I ordered the LED 1157 tower LED bulbs I have in several cars and bikes, it took almost 8 weeks for them to come from China.

The diode mod is so easy, and it will work with either incandescent or LED.

I will try to post my ghetto mod lights. This is a Vbulletin site, so it should be easy, i hope.

I don't have a problem with Chinese companies as long as they honestly list shipping times in advance and in your face. I ordered some bearings from a company that hid the fact that they were chinese and that it would take several weeks to arrive. After a week I contacted them to say I hadn't received it yet and that is when I found out that they were posing as a US company. I contacted the credit card company and reversed the charges because they had withheld material information about the product. They claimed that they did say that they were a chinese company and that there would be long shipping times, but that information was buried on their website and you would never see it unless you searched for it.

Since then, I make it a point to burn any company that deceives me like that.

Has anyone done the mirror turn signal light mods as well? I was wondering what that would entail or where to buy a kit. I have found some for the new gen but not much luck for pre gen.

After doing the ghetto tail tidy/turn signal delete/taillight to turn signal mods, the front signals looked dorky sticking out. Since my new flush mounts are coming from China, and may take a while I decided to try to rig something up.

Lights: Amber LED marker lights from Autozone. Blazer #CW1586A. The lights are screwed to a mount base. After you remove the mount base, you will find a ground tab that will need a ground wire soldered on. The green wire in the picture is one of the wires from the old turn signal that I cut off and reused. The ground tab needs to be bent up, and has a hole in it for the wire, solders easily. The workings of the light are nicely potted to keep moisture out. I cut the wires off the old turn signals to get plug n play wiring.

I used the mount base as template for the holes for the screws. They barely fit in the lip, but capture well and will not come loose. I used a 1/16" drill bit to drill the holes after marking the location with an awl. The pictures are kid of poor, but you get the idea. It looks better than the pictures. I went ahead and pulled the fairing and did the "diode mod" for the indicator lamp since I had my soldering iron out. The diodes are Radio shack 1N4001.

Cool mod man. I was wondering if I get the smoke style flush mount lights could I get brighter bulbs to make them more visible or maybe switch to a LED? The smoke style flush mounts match the color of my bike better but visibility is important to me.

Two weeks since I ordered the flush mounts. The USPS tracking site still says awaiting shipment. Probably waiting to fill up a cargo container before shipping, or stuck in customs.

Ordering stuff from china usually takes about a month. Most of them print the shipping label 10 minutes after you place the order. This creates a false "Your package was shipped" message. But it can be days or weeks before they actually ship it. When sellers do that, don't be shy about giving them a negative rating if you ordered through ebay.

In my experience, I have always gotten everything I ordered from china. The fastest was about a week and the slowest was about 6 weeks. If your promised delivery date has expired, then contact the seller. If no response, call the credit card company or paypal.

They came in yesterday. I had signed up for automatic tracking updates, and had not gotten any. They look ok, but I ordered clear and got smoke.

I will see how they fit and work. I will post up about my findings.

I tried to test fit them yesterday. They will not fit unless you hog out the fairing to fit the sockets that stick out the back. They are not as bright as the LED ghetto lights. The backings are cheezy with a capital Cheeze, and you have to use them (or make better ones) because otherwise a hole in the fairing is left exposed.

I am leaving it the way it is, and will keep the "flushmounts" as a lesson learned.
