Motion Pro Throttle sleeve for Pre-gen.
Just a thread to show my solution for the ever-twisting pre-gen throttle...
As everyone probably knows, the stock throttle sleeve on a pre-gen Ninja sucks. After much researching on the web for solutions, I purchased the Motion Pro #01-0094. (Amazon...$10) It's a replacement for a '03-'05 R6. I regret that I didn't measure the width of the sleeve and compare it to stock, but the pics should show the difference. sleevecompare.jpg You can't tell, but the OEM sleeve has the "zip tie" mod done to it. It really didn't help as much as I thought it would..... Sleevecompare2.jpg A better pic for comparison. Notice the zip tie mod and it's width compared to the Motion Pro sleeve. MP.jpg Also fits other bikes. But this is the one that's good for pre-gens. MPmodded.jpg I had to cut away some of the plastic from the curved black wire stop in order for the zip-tie mod to work, and so it wouldn't rub anything. Also, I removed some of the plastic from the "pull wire" side of the new sleeve, so the wire stop would fit. No binding...... MPclosed.jpg Throttle closed..... MPWOT.jpg Throttle wide open..... MPdistance.jpg Distance is 38mm from closed to WOT. Feels like 1/5 of a turn. I haven't ridden her yet, but I know that the zip-tie mod didn't feel like it did anything, where as this sleeve feels way different and uses less wrist to gain WOT. I'll post some post-ride info at a later date......

I'm interested in the size of the cable wheel on the carbs. My '09 EX500 uses the exact same part number throttle (46019-1077) as many years of the PreGen EX250, and it's 1/4 turn to WOT.
![]() The (identical) throttle is obviously pulling the cable the exact same amount, so it must need to pull a lot more cable around the carb wheel to achieve the same movement. |

FYI, I rode her last night to bike night. Throttle response is much easier on the wrist. Feels about a 1/5 turn and I didn't have to reposition my grip to go WOT. Also, my cables must have been set a little loose before, because with the new sleeve they are just about perfect. Ran great!

I just finished doing this mod on my '06 model this morning. Wasn't hard to do. Had to cut the enclosed end of the tube off to remount my bar ends. Trimming the excess off the stops on the tube was easy using a bench grinder. After some deburring, it was ready to install.
Putting it back together was a PITA getting the cables in place. Well worth the effort IMHO. Just be aware it isn't a "drop in", and takes some futzing around. Going for an afternoon ride today, or a morning ride tomorrow to see how it works in real world riding conditions.
