Aftermarket speedo
Hey everyone,
I recently took the gauge cluster off of my 250 and installed an aftermarket one. Found here: http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintag...er-490291.html They also have it in black. [IMG][/IMG] I wanted to be able to just plug it in to the oem plugs so I followed a combination of this thread http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=116546 (about half way down the page the guy posted a picture of his wiring job so i tried to see what wires he connected) and these directions http://www.jpcycles.com/instructions/pdf/5600262.pdf It took a little time and some testing but I eventually got all of the lights to work as they should, including the blinkers. Since the blinker indicator is an led you have to add resisters to the two blinker wires. If not, all four blinkers will blink when activated. I just went to radio shack and bought 2, 10 ohm- 1 watt resistors and put them in between the two blinker wires and one blinker wire from the speedo, as shown. They cost about $2 and work great. I have had everything hooked up for about 2 weeks and havent had a problem yet. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] Like all threads I do not assume any responsibility, hopefully just a a helpful thread for someone. If you have any questions just pm me and i will try to help. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] Also, my speedo is a 2:1 ratio and it is pretty close to actual speed. Reads a little high. I also soldered all of the wires and heat shrunk them then wrapped everything in electrical tape for a cleaner look. Oliver |

I bought my solder gun, solder, and shrink wrap from harbor freight for probably around $10. Everything worked great. Also, when I was testing, if one of the indicator lights didnt work when i plugged everything in I just switched the 2 wires ("power" and "ground") and then it would work.
