Not new but new here from NE Ohio

Hi everybody Wardie here and I hail from Youngstown, Ohio. I have a 1992 Ninja 250 that is pretty much stock except the Yosh 2 into 1...

ride BMW's mostly but have a Dr 250 kicker for the woods.

Going over bike and it should be ready next week depending on the weather.

Looking forward to riding with some of you next Summer maybe the Deals Gap trip. Wardie

thanks

Thank you Chris. Just ordered the Kawi 250 valve lash tool. Going through the whole bike. I'm going to look for a stock exhaust system. The Yoshimura 2 into one is loud. The centerstand is intact and working with this system but when you go to change oil..guess what? Right , the pipe runs under oil filter making removing the pipes on an oil change necessary. Looking forward to meeting some like folks and doing some trips on my bike. I have some minamalist camping gear that will be perfect for the Ninja. Ha, leave the Beemer at home maybe. Thanks again good to hear from you. Wardie

Hey Wardie. I just made a trip up there to Ohio on my bike from Dallas. Just got back last Monday. I'm originally from Cleveland.

Back to Dallas in the nick of time

Auknight I think you went back just in time. Friday light snow, Saturday good riding weather and Sunday it starts to get crappy. I'd like to hear how you packed the bike and the miles and routes. Wardie

LOL! I know what you mean. I was watching the weather reports and i was actually supposed to leave after a couple days, but my folks asked me to stay longer. So I was sweating a little about the direction of travel for the winds and snow and such. But in the end it looked more contained to the east outside Ohio.

As far as the packing goes, I went with 3 days worth of clothes, and got compact style everything. TSA size liquids, folding toothbrush, all in one detergent sheets. I also brought my laptop, so that, with the accessories, charger, one book, wet wipes, tools, and a few other small miscellaneous items, were distributed between my 45 liter backpack, and 33 liter motocentric roll tail bag. The laptop went on my back, along with one set of clothes, some insulating layers, basically bare essentials in case someone snatched my roll bag while I was away from my bike or something (like at a rest area). I also was carrying a 2 liter hydration bladder in the backpack.

As for the tail bag, it got everything else obviously, including the chain wax, compact A/C, tire repair kit, some shop towels, extra trash bags. I didn’t bring fluids as I figured I could purchase along the way, and also if I needed those, I should go home and fix the bike anyway.

That’s basically all I could fit, as I no longer have a tank bag. I don’t have a rack either. (Ok I lied, there was still space in my backpack so in truth it’s all I WANTED to fit). I’d like to get a rack system, so that I can strap a larger waterproof bag to the back instead of using the roll bag. The backpack is big enough I feel. Another tank bag should help too for future trips.

Keep in mind, this was an 1100 mile, 19 hour actual riding trip. I only planned to stay over one night at a hotel. I feel my minimal setup could have lasted me going across the continent assuming I could stop and wash my clothes every few days. But I’ve never done that so it’s purely speculation.

My route took me along I-30, I-40, I-65, to I-71. I went, from Dallas, through Texarkarna TX, Little Rock AR, Memphis and Nashville TN, Louisville KY, finally entering Ohio at Cincinnati, going through Columbus to get to Cleveland. These were also all my fuel stops, or at least just outside the cities.

Another thing to note, I came across quite a few campsites along the way. So I guess later on after getting some camping gear, and modifying my setup to accommodate, I can give camping a try.

That’s about it. Is that what you wanted to know?

camping

Auknight let me know when you want to start figuring out camping gear. I have a set up I carry on my Beemer that works well. I have another set up that is minimalist that I use for my DR 250. One has Eureka A frame which I can almost stand up and cooking gear with stove etc., Kermit Chair the minimalist has Kelty One Person and Alcohol stove .

Going to pack the Ninja this summer if they have the deals Gap get together and ride down from Ohio.

I took my Beemer Oct. 6th to Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama for a couple days then left there a went to Biketoberfest in Daytona and finally returning October 17th. a good trip. Thanks for the info. And thanks to all ,who stopped by to greet me! Wardie

You can upload them to an album on your profile and then take the address of the picture with the on the back and post it up on a thread for us to see.

Or you can use something like picasa and post them here using the address and the things
