Will frogg Toggs protect you?

http://www.amazon.com/Frogg-Toggs-PS...torcycle+pants

looking for a cheap pair of pants that will go over my shorts since it's hot here in the summer. I know these are water proof, but I think that these will work for the most part.

I'm mainly concerned with, how protective they are... again, money is really tight so I cannot afford anything much more than $40.

Do you guys think these will be adequate for the rest of the summer?

If they are not very protective, then at least compare them to jeans for me, which would be better?

If they are the same as mine they are rain protection ONLY. Probably less protection than jeans.

Those will only protect you against rain, not a crash. They also won't breathe at all, and will be very hot in the summer.

It sounds to me like you need a decent pair of overpants.

Both jeans and frogg toggs protect on the same level. Which is to say, none at all.

don't get those except as rain overpants to wear over your protective gear.

really you have 3 options from worst protection to best:
1. some knee shin guards (dianese and a* are the way to go here, the icon one sucks and won't do anything) these will be cheap and you can wear it with anything.
2. kevlar reinforced jeans/pants these are a solid way to go really but then you're stuck wearing the same pants all the time
3. textile/leather overpants these will offer the most protection by far and will allow you to wear whatever you want underneath them, however not all of them breathe well and they tend to be more expensive than the other options

Then, your only option is becoming so proficient riding that crashing becomes impossible, as you could afford crashing even less.

The smaller crash will cost you more than $40.

Please, read this:

I have a stubborn old friend who owns a Yamaha FJ1200 and wears absolutely no protecting gear, not even a helmet, only eyes protection.

He has been riding many bikes for more than forty years and has never crashed.
I believe that his extraordinary proficiency has been his best protective item.

Thanks, I enjoyed reading that.

I know I need the gear now, I already spent close to $300 on my helmet, jacket and gloves. I want to get boots badly but I am worried about the fitment (I want my feet to be comfortable). I need pants too, but again, money is tight as of now.

I'll see what I can do though, gonna try and go for boots first, then pants. Unless I see a good deal for pants.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy these pants and these boots

pants - http://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Wat...productDetails

Boots - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D6NPGES?...productDetails

I had a question though, I wear 30 inch jeans, so will 32 be enough? (The sizing says to go up one size if you plan on wearing jeans under, which I do) or should I do 34?

How do these choices look to you anyway? I'm spending more money than I have, but oh well, gotta be safe.

The boots look like they'll do their job
As for the pants, I think one size up should work since you're wearing it over your normal pants.

before you buy see if you can find anything you like on revzilla.com or motorcycle-superstore.com those are the sites that I use and they do free swaps if you decide you need a different size (a common incident with gear since different brands have different cuts and sizes)

If you have a really tight budget, check out your local Craigslist. Sometimes you can pick up used gear for insanely cheap prices. About three years ago, I bought a pair of like-new Alpinestar Stage boots for $30.

Even so, I think you're going to be hard-pressed to find a pair of decent riding pants for just $40...

Check Craigslist I've found some new Joe rocket boots for 1/2 price of new. Perhaps be better to get good used gear, than cheap new gear.

Gotta say something, dude - if you have a budget too tight for atgatt, then your budget is definitely too tight for a hospital visit and all that entails.

Thanks everyone, but I think I'm just going to go with the choices I provided, I read most of the links motofool, and I think the pants and boots I am getting will protect me. I cannot afford anything more expensive, not for at least a couple weeks anyway. I would rather get medium level gear and save up for the MSF course than be stuck with good gear and no training.

As for everyone else, I checked craigslist, nothing on there even remotely close to me, and the ones that were close to me were either the wrong size or they were for women.
