Funny thing the other day at the store

I was getting ready to leave the grocery store - putting the stuff in my Kurakyn bag. An OLD lady was getting out of her car and looked so worried about me. I forget exactly what she said but something along the lines of being very careful etc. I assured her I was and smiled. At the time a younger couple got out of their car and had heard the conversation. So they chimed in telling the old lady they spotted me doing wheelies on the highway yesterday (of course I wasn't lol) but you should have seen the old lady's face she was so concerned. It was funny to me but still

The consensus I'm starting to see at least in my area, it's not as common to see women riders on these bikes, they're more typically passengers.

I won't admit but SHHH - I'm a grandma too! Grandma at 39....still can't get used to that. Grandbaby is 11 months old now. I plan to be riding a really long time - just wish I hadn't gotten such a late start (motorcycle endorsement at age 38).

Another funny thing that happened a few days earlier - I was getting ready to turn left and a truck was next to me going straight. When my light turned green, the guy yelled "HIT IT GIRL!" Lol.

I have some Harley friends at work - hard core Harley people and they've known or have been involved in some pretty scary accidents. I try to learn from other peoples' stories as much I can.

Lol yea. Married for 19 years now. He doesn't ride and isn't thrilled about my riding but he knows he has to deal with that.

Maybe you should kick him the balls and tell him to grow a bigger pair and buy a tiny little itty-bitty-miniscule-microscopic-motorcycle so you can teach him how to ride it properly.

Then you can spend quality alone time in the mountains with yourself waiting for his tiny bike to climb the hill you and your machine just did.

Every time I fill up my bike at our local gas station, the same worker always tells me to be careful. Although unnecessary, it still serves as a good reminder for me to watch out.

My favorite little old lady encounter came shortly after I got my CBR.

When I took it to the grocery store, there were no motorcycle only parking, and the parking lot was pretty notorious for people generally being stupid and knocking bikes over (and hitting parked cars...), so I always rode the CBR unobtrusively up onto the sidewalk, and parked it just outside the door, along the side of the building (bit sidewalk, it was completely out of the way).

Anyway, this little old lady, probably in her mid-70s or so, comes walking up to me and I'm thinking she's going to go off on me about parking on the sidewalk. She just stops and looks at the bike, sighs a little and says, "That looks like fun."

I swear if I had a spare helmet I would have offered her a ride right then and there.

I know that the older folks, especially the women are from a time when only crazy teenage/20 boys... and felonious bearded, Harley/Indian ridin', beer drinkin', "nar-do-wells" ride motorcycles... JUST NOT what ladies of distinction would ever be caught doing, either as a pillion or WORSE YET, a pilot.

both my grandmother (94) and her older sister (100) thought my daughter was on the road to wreck and ruin when she threw her leg over and "gripped & ripped".

they were sure all she needed was a tattoo and a bottle of Jack and the journey would be complete.

My favorite little old lady encounter came when I lived in San Diego and cummuted daily on my 2008 Ninja 250R.

I had just finished working a graveyard shift and stopped at a bagel shop on my way home. When I came out and started getting on my remaining gear, two elderly Japanese women approached me. One began talking excitedly in broken English. She kept saying “you know Kawasaki?!" and "Kawasaki from Japan!" Soon it was clear that she was excited to see that "Kawasaki" was known outside of Japan. I told her that they were very popular motorcycles world-wide, especially here, and that I love mine. She seemed happy.

The other lady didn't say anything the whole time. I assume that the excited one was visiting her sister/friend or something and her sister/friend probably thought the whole conversation was silly (like getting excited to see a Toyota in the USA). I do wonder if "Kawasaki" is more personal to her, like it's her family name or something.

When I say everyone in my family rides or rode, I included my living 90+ year old granny (Harper side) and my living 87 year old grandfather on the Walsh side... I really really mean everyone on both sides has or had a motorcycle

My 80+ year old aunt died on a Harley 8 months ago
My nephews dad died on a suzuki when I was in Iraq, my nephew got broken bones
Only guy that hasn't had a real motorcycle is my brother, he has rode though

I still get the all worried family guilt trips... It's a murder ciccle rocket bike after all

Rifleman - funny you said that about the tattoo. When I got my bike the guys at work were joking about my getting tattoos next, etc. They were just kidding but neither rode so they probably have a preconceived image of the type of people bikers are.

It's funny because there is NO history of riding that I'm aware of, in my family or my husband's. I have a few Harley rider friends at work and they were the ones I believe that really took my interest. Especially when the one engineer took me for a couple rides on his 2012 Harley (I think Streetglide??) very high end custom bike. That was the first time I rode on a bike before (Well I was a passenger on a ninja type bike about 20 years ago for a short ride - remember being scared then).

well it's changed A LOT... my grandfather road a Henderson, his buddy had an Indian... basically if they wern't riding it, they were fixing it.

My uncle road Triumph's and BSA's... if you wern't riding it... you were fixing it.

I ride Suzuki's and Honda's... I ride them.

When Mr. Honda produced a bike that didn't need weekly repair and brought it in on a budget... suddenly a less then gear head female could afford and pilot something with two wheels and a good dose of "naughty".

I actually have two strikes, Ex Navy and a biker... and yet, still no tattoo's

guess I just haven't found something that I felt I needed inked on my body forever...
