09 250r rebuild (pic heavy!)

Hadn't posted here since I got the bike. Figured it was time to post progress of my rebuild since I'm almost finished. Here is what I started with....mechanically the bike was great but cosmetically it was BAD. The previous owner had spray painted the bike with everything on it (orginal color was red). Not to mention the taillight was for a Honda CBR. And it had been downed on the right side.

Stripped her down and got to work repainting the frame and coating the exhaust

Exhaust and frame repainted and coated! Now onto the wheels.

I have a thing for white bikes so first things first was to get the wheels powdercoated and new tires put on. Went with Duro 110F and 140R.

After that I painted the calipers and put on new rotors and pad along with Venhill SS brake lines..

Next up was the exhaust. I'm not much on big mufflers hanging off the side of the bike so I found this company who makes slip ons for just about every bike BUT a 250r.... Coffman's Exhaust Systems. Talked to the owner and eason being was they could never get a 250r in the shop as a guinea pig. So I figured surely a CBR 250 one would fit a Ninja 250 and decided to be the guinea pig. Sure enough...fit perfectly and sounds way better than the two brothers that was orginially on the bike. Check em out!

This is how much I cut off the stock pipe to make the muffler tuck as much as it could..

Now it was time to start painting the fairings. I like white bikes but to much white can be a bad thing. So I decided to do kind of a two-tone deal. Ordered a unpainted fairing kit and won a hotbodies undertail kit off ebay for $78! Also installed a Sportisi rear hugger. Painted the back half of the bike satin black and added white decals from SportbikeStickerShop.com

Got rid of the Honda tail light and added an LED one with intergrated turn signals from TMP. Also added some SV Racing rearsets and frame sliders.

Time for the white!

Had to throw on the Sportisi headlight cowl and double bubble windscreen along with 4300k ddm tuning hids.

Onto the cockpit! Got some vortex clips ons and barends along with some aftermarket grips I had powder coated white to match. Got some adjustable shorty levers to add to the mix and dropped the bike in the front 1.25". Instead of spending $100 on preload adjusters from SSR I decided to make my own fork caps. Lowe's is the Sh!t. Found some white face gauges on ebay for cheap and painted the needles red.

I decided to try to make my own cell phone mount because frankly all the ones you see online cost WAY to much and to me don't look good.
I have a Samsung note 2 (BIG phone) so had to get creative.
Version 1:

Looked good but covered up the Neutral light, turn signal indicator and gear indicator.
Final version...added a cabinet hinge so now I pull the phone down to see what time it is or when I get a call and push it up into the back of the windscreen where it's out of the way.

Finally all back together!

Not yet. I'll be putting the side pieces on in a few days once the paint is good and dry. I'll post pics up as soon as I do though.

Great rebuild. Can you post a pic of the side? I'm looking at white as my next color - though probably won't be for another 5 years.

And where'd you get the cell mount bar? Looks like it was made to fit and looks amazing.

Nice job

It may have looked cool to paint your exhaust chrome. But black looks great too! If I had to paint my bike I would go orange, since orange bike are not as common.

I'll have some more pics this weekend when it's all back together. The cell mount I made out of aluminum stock and a cabinet hinge using my otterbox belt clip.

I had really thought about orange to be honest. But white just did it for me more I guess.

Just wait until you have to clean tar off that.... I love white, but ya gotta stay on top of it to make cleaning a breeze. If you wait for it to build up, it's a pain in the arse or takes a while.

Tip: WD40 breaks down alot of road grime but don't use it at the expense of your paint or clear coat.

And a follow up - did you bend the aluminum stock or do you have an item/part number where you bought it?

I bent it using my head and knees lol. Just kept working with it until I got it just right. I got the aluminum at Lowe's for like $3. It's where they keep all the aluminum sheets, rods, stock etc.

I know right?!?!?! I've already ordered new sonic springs and SSR preload adjusters for the forks to stiffen the front end up a bit.

Hey I'm sorry. I ended up working all weekend and didn't have time. All ya need is...
1. Peice of aluminum flat stock from Lowe's,Home Depot, etc
2. An otterbox case (or any case that has a belt clip)
3. A cabinet hinge of your choice from Lowe's, Home Depot, etc
4. 2 windscreen bolts that are longer than the stock ones (I don't remember the stock size bolts right off hand)
5. 2 locking nuts and 2 small washers

That's pretty much it really. This might help ya too...
