Mounting toll transponders

So, I am diving right into the heart of EZ Pass territory soon and, not having toll roads anywhere near me, these silly little transponder things are a mystery.

Apparently they don't take into consideration tiny little sport bikes when designing this thing.

How do you mount yours if you live in an area that they are required?

Zip tie to the fairing stay or fork leg (inside the fairing).

Would the nose of the bike block the signal or does it not care because its plastic?

Depends, some work off a radio signal. Some riders just toss it in their tank bag/backpack. If yours is infrared, then a clear line of sign may be needed.

I learned recently that mine works off of infrared when I got a pair of tickets in the mail today from when I tossed it into my backpack and forgot about it to head to the beach for a day

That looks like the ones that mount to the license plate. Do they have moto specific transponders? We have them here and mine is under my rear seat.

That is North Carolina's moto one. The instructions show sticking it to a big harley style windshield.

The standard EZPass radio ones can just go in a tankbag; I wouldn't want to mount them anywhere visible.

Do you actually need to mount it?

Maybe it varies by state but here they match up your license plate, check to see if you have a Fastrak account and charge your account. My toll tag has been stashed at home for the better part of a year; no ticket, no fuss.

I was only charged around $10 each way (for a $4 toll each way, so $20 for what shoudl have been $8) and court fees to fight it would be $30 at a minimum and a day in court so it isn't worth it

I saw that in the FL forum that @Motofool posted, but if I have an out of state tag, relying on the interoperatbility of NC's transponder in an EZ Pass area, say New York, where would the toll company look to see if I have an account?

I might try that. Trouble is my tankbag is rather full on its own without this thing.

I asked the operator how big this was and I kept getting "the size of a makeup case." Feminine voice =/= make up user.

I haven't signed up but the Seattle area "good to go" has special motorcycle tags that go on the headlamp. Here's the instructions (Harley style):
http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/NR/rdonlyres...ctions_web.pdf

but here you can see how well it fits a sports style lamp:
http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showt...location/page3

Pretty good solution I think.
