Splicing wires
So I'm changing the engine and just realized the engine I bought has the Alternator Lead wires and Crankshaft Sensor wires cut. Can I just splice these wires together? It would be with aviation envirmontel splices.

Yeah. you'll be fine. Just make sure you seal the splice up properly.

I'm old school, solder with heat shrink.

If stress is an issue, then solder, and crimp.
With leads coming off the stator, you don't want any resistance, if you have resistance, you have heat, then you melt. http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__...p280_help.html If your going for reliability the consider changing the OEM stator connector with a better one,3 Position HD Waterproof Connector http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__...etri-pack.html

I like those weatherpack connectors. I should really do more of my wiring with those. Wish I'd discovered them long before I did.

Jim Davis, owner of Eastern Beaver, is responsive, prompt, and makes great products. He gets a 5-star rating in my book.

Yeah Jim is a great guy. When I did my mosfet R/R conversion I just got the ends I needed,
but I will be doing the full wiring hopefully this winter, http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__...onnectors.html Also looking into this as well http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Wiring...3_circuit.html

Those are nice and all, but just about every shade tree mechanic in KY can get the same result with this;

Thanks everyone for all the information. These splices are pretty durable and weather resistant. We use them all over our airplanes and have no issues even when exposed to the environment like the wheelwells.

I opted to upsize my stator output wiring *direct* to the mosfet RR.... a Shindegan FH010 (from an earlier ZX10) using a Furakawa connector at the RR.
Note puny 16ga yellow opposed to 12ga black silicone jacketed stuff. The tiny junk 16 not long term reliable...simply could not deal with the heat...insulation hardened Although this on my Duc...same principles apply to your ninj. That Duc stator was rewound by Ricks, has held up remarkably, my only complaint was the undersized wire size they chose. Prompting my tweak....with no further issues nor complaints. |

Of course, must heat shrink and can use additional loom (where applicable) |

The splicing has been done and everything is working perfectly. The engine is finally in and working great after swapping the starter and syncing the carbs. Now just waiting on the chain and sprockets to arrive and should be rideable by the afternoon.
