RIP twong85

I just spoke with Paul who saw Tim (@twong85) go down. It was at the base of Mt Hamilton. He lowsided off the road and hit a tree. Paul tried to help him but Tim had died on impact. The crash is on film, we can start another thread if you wish to discuss it.

I had only met Tim a couple times but he was a very enthusiastic new rider. He asked a lot of questions about my bike and was excited to be out riding with others. I was looking forward to riding with him again and making a new friend.

RIP Tim

RIP. My prayers to his family, friends and riding buddies. Always sad to see one of our own go down.

Out of respect to his family, I suggest we hold off on posting the crash video here until they've had time to grieve and grant permission.

RIP dude...

Scary every time I read these -- could be me next time. More details on what happened look to be available here: http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/fo...36&postcount=1 (be aware, some wrenching photos; nothing gory but scary bike damage)

Definitely reminds me to never ride past my limits, I don't want to see any more of these posts here (or be the subject of one)

Geez those pictures are hard to look at. I wonder how fast he was going. This just reminds me how lucky I was to be uninjured when I crashed last year. I went off the road but somehow missed all the trees. Thank God.

RIP Tim.

Learning a bit more about Tim online this morning. He was young, but also had a promising career ahead of him. Design Engineer at Nvidia, Masters from Stanford, and everything to look forward to. This sport is cruel. The planned route was certainly a bit twisty, but it didn't have to be taken at any pace above or below any individual rider's preferred speed. This also happened only moments after turning on to the first road with some mild curves on it, meaning it wasn't a fatigue or other new-rider type issue. (google map link of that portion of road)

I have no more information about his family or friends, and would certainly want folks to share what they do find out here, whether it's for the services or just to make sure that those who knew him have people to talk to for whatever needed. I chatted with Paul last night, another new rider who was first on the scene and tried to help Tim, and this is something that is going to affect him for a very long time.

If there's anything that we can be doing differently as a site to help people related to this event, or for future rides to make this that much less likely, I'm all for it. This isn't the thread for suggestion-box ideas, but please post up a new thread or threads with anything that touches on those topics.
