Any Hawaii members?

Hey, I woke up a few days ago and said.. F it, I'm buying a motorcycle.

Went on CL, found an 09 EX250J and bought it the next day. Took/passed my permit test yesterday, bought insurance, put the bike in my own name, and scheduled a road test for next week.

Yesterday I put ~100mi on the bike and I honestly cannot think of myself ever NOT owning a bike for the rest of my life. So much fun!

I've got a couple issues to work out with the bike, but it's in excellent condition at 10k miles.

Met up with an old coworker yesterday, bought some older-year alpinestars Apex sportbike leather pants, and a Bell Star ZZZ Viper carbon helmet. I'm looking for some boots to match and some gloves, eventually a riding jacket as well.

Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself. Any members on maui? Hawaii?

The previous owner gave me a CD with the manual in PDF format on it.. but my computer doesn't have a CD drive so I'm not sure what I'm going to do just yet.

In the next short while I want to do all maintenance and tune this bike up to tip-top shape before I take it up to the crater roads and really see how she goes.

Does anyone know how many miles between valve lash adjustment?

The bike sits at 10.5k, and I want to get everything working perfectly.

My first major issue is a non-working tachometer. Expect new threads incoming once I have a look through the wiki.

Check out the member map (link in my sig) to find nearby members, and add yourself as well. At the top of the new-gen tech forum, there are a few sticky threads that have the info you are looking for on maintenance intervals, as well as links to download your owners manual.

Thanks alex! I already checked out the member list and didn't see any maui members.

Also downloaded the maintenance PDF spreadsheet with maintenance intervals.

I'm off to hunt for the manual now.

Howdy. In the state, but over on Oahu here. Great choice on a starter bike! MSF course next, and lots of practice!

Thanks guys!

Glad to see some hawaii members.

I'm putting together a bike bandit order for a bunch of maintenance parts and some boots and gear at the moment...

Do you guys think it'd be smart to replace sparkplugs at 10k miles?

Not sure what the condition of them is, haven't looked yet..

That's the thing.. I want to order parts and do all the maintenance at once.

Otherwise I'm taking things apart and have to let everything sit for a while until I order parts and they make it all the way to hawaii. Which means no riding in the mean time..

I'm thoroughly hooked on this bike and riding in general.

But thanks for the tip.

If your plan is to do everything all at once don't forget to order some shims.
