Mounting New tires

How do you guys mount new tires on the rims?

I tried blasting compressed air in through the valve stem after I had put the tires on and it didn't work. Do I have to remove the valve core to set the bead on the rim when doing this? I also tried spraying starter fluid all around the rim but it only set my tire on fire..... The bike shops nearby are all closed for the holidays I'd really like to ride again asap!

lol I'm quite an expert after my ordeal last week.

The valve stem should be removed, it will allow you to blast more air into the tire.

Take the core out and shove an air hose on the stem. If that fails you can always spray something fun in there and touch it off. Or get a bigger air tank that flows more

The tire and wheel should be properly lubricated, both beads should be contacting the wheel all around and the valve core may be removed from the valve stem to allow more air flow into the tire.

If the beads don't seal all around, you can tie a rope or belt around the perimeter of the tire, like in the pic, in order to spread the beads.

You should keep hands, arms, and entire body away from the tire during the bead seat and inflation.
Do not stand over the tire.
Do not leave tools on the tire sidewall when inflating tire. NEVER increase air pressure to exceed 40 psi when attempting bead seating.

Ok, will try! Have to go to my storage unit to pick up the core removal tool anyways.

Ok, strap around the tire worked great for the back tire but now the front won't seal up even with 2 straps on it. I don't know what to do I tried starter fluid and pry bars to seat the tire but nothing is working....

You could use a bicycle inner tube (maybe a 20") as a donut to restrain the air from escaping too fast until you build up some pressure.

Also see if there's any way you can get more air flow

O ring was too small. I think it was from a vacuum cleaner. Will buy a bike tube tomorrow and give it a try. I am using an 11gal portable tank with a short rubber hose with 300 psi rating connected to a trigger you squeeze to let air out..... a 16" tube will work for our bikes I would imagine??

I wonder if there are any around the house products I could use in place of the inner tube so I don't have to wait til tomorrow....

I don't blame you but I will say it gets easier every time. By the time you get the process down it will be a piece of cake. I think next tire change will be very easy. From what I've learned I do think tires with higher aspect ratios seat easier.....

Do you have a rubber hose or foam tube (floater or pipe insulation) to make a donut with?

I had a flat on the highway once and broke the bead. We connected two belts around the center and cinched while my compressor was on and it worked.

Best way I've found is to get a ratcheting tie down, lube up the bead with soapy water or WD-40 and ratchet away while the compressor is on. I've done this with bike, Atv and car tires with great success.

The ratcheting tie down didn't work. I think the compressor hose itself might work (an extra) but I'm gonna buy a tire tube today.

put a 16" inner tube on one side of rim but it didn't help. Air still leaks out.... I would've bought two but they only had one left at the store...... I'll try again tomorrow when there is actually light out.

Have you tried warming the tire up before trying to seat the bead? Either leave it out in the sun if it's warm or a space heater then try the strap method?

I mean I'm sure it wouldn't hurt but the temp has been around 77+ here so I wouldn't say they are frozen or anything. Hopefully walmart is open tomorrow so I can get another inner tube.... Seems like such a small thing to be stuck on but what can you do....

I went to a tire kingdom and they shot it with a ton of air and seated it. They said it was free so I gave the worker $20. I'm not sure it was gonna work ever my way because I think I would need a whole lot more air pressure/volume to seat the bead as quickly as possible. Never buying that size tire for the front again! The bigger the better imo....

Cool

What tire is it?

Sometimes, the tires are flattened sideways due to long storage at the bottom of a pile of tires.
