New member!
Hey all, new to the forum here.
Just picked up an '09 250. Got it for dirt cheap and decided to give it a little tlc. First thing I did was put in new tires and an oil change. After riding for a few hours the other day I came back to it the next day and saw a small puddle of oil beneath it around where the kickstand is. A friend of mine suggested that this is due to overfilling it and it's not a big problem. However I'm still a little freaked out. I checked the oil levels from the right side and it's in normal range, so I'm not too sure as to what else could be wrong. Ideas as to where I should check? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

It could be something as innocuous as excess chain lube, or it could be an actual oil leak. The puddle itself isn't going to narrow it down, you need to find where on the bike it's coming from. Can you get close and try and find the source?

Because it stopped leaking it's difficult for me to trace. I took a photo of the rear suspension, you can kind of see where the oil has been through. Hope this kind of helps...

When you check the oil make sure that the bike is upright and not on he side stand. If you overfilled it oil will blow out of the crankcase vent into the airbox. If the airbox drain cap is missing, oil will leak out but usually it will leak over on the sprocket cover and under that area when parked.

Yeah I did stand it upright to check, and it's within the range. Once I get my toolbox back I'll open up the airbox to take a look. I probably should clean or replace the air filter anyway, who knows when the last owner last did that. Hopefully it's just that and nothing more...
