Noobsauce
What's up! I'm Kelly from Phoenix, AZ. I'm a man (name fail not my fault).
Anyway, I'm looking at getting a commuter bike and I've kind of settled on the 250. I had an '01 ZX6-R in college but let it go after riding in Phoenix for awhile. I'm about to acquire a 120 mile round trip commute daily for work and my 86 Maxima wagon is eating my lunch. I figured between $6-7k a year in fuel alone. My co-workers, a bunch have tried commuting, have all advised against what I'm about to do but I'm hard headed. I work as a test driver in vehicle development at the Toyota Arizona Proving Grounds, own a small shop that I'm about to shut down called Kamikaze BottleRockets and do some amateur drifting on the side. Hope I can bring something useful here even it's just someone new to laugh at. |

Thanks! Some days I can't imagine why someone would pay me to do the stuff they ask me to. One of the protocols I ran recently said (in Janglish), Drive the course at the limit basically, when steady acheived, produce the drift out maneuver. Evaluate the feeling of control.
I had to notify a supervisor just so I wouldn't get fired for what I was about to go do haha! |

Sup Kel! Welcome.
Sounds like a cool job and that commute of 120 miles might seem like a bit much. But can be enjoyable. Just consider fatigue while riding, Only concern is have. Working long days and hoping on the bike for a ride home I prefer to be alert versus tired on a bike. You'll def save on gas. Have fun in the forums !! |

It's a biznatch of a ride but if it allows me to spend more money on tires for my drift car, I'll do it. Was on the Ramen diet until the whole cancer thing became obvious. I'm stupid sure, just not batsh!t crazy. Question if anyone is still reading this thread. Do I go with an older 250 or try to get a newer 250R but still used? I'm in love with street fighters so there's a chance I will destroy my first 250 in an attempt to make it look somewhat exciting. Being a drifter we tend to make the most irrational decisions, it's in our training manual. |

I would go for a newer ninja 250r that is new. Anything 2008 and up! Prolly find a good deal for around 3k if you can. The key thing is clean title and already well maintenanced. There are deals out there just got to find it. With the long commute, something reliable is key!

^^heck yeah!
Exhibit A: I can assure you that my 1999 ninja 250 is in loads better condition than a buddy's 2008. He didn't even lube the chain. All rusty and nasty. I got my bike in completely spotless condition. It had all the maintenance done by a dealership. Valves, oil, uni-track, everything. It had 6400 miles and was completely 100% stock. I've done all the maintenance since then. |

To all my pre-gen brothers out there. Did not attempt to bash pre-gens at all.
I do understand it doesn't matter what type of bike. The newer style I suggested is strictly cosmetic. I do understand that something reliable and well maintenanced is all you need. If preventative maintenance is done to any bike your set. Safe riding guys! |

No worries @ProdigyRacingLA! I'm not butthurt both bikes are great! I just think it's silly when people try to justify a new bike on reliability. I totally understand the cosmetics argument though. I'm just too cheap to pay for good looks.

Glad I clarified further. The looks are more pricey but I guarantee the riding experience is just as fun. Which is all that really matters. Nice pic BTW! |

Damn Craigslist. Bought a 98 last night after work. Has 4,500 miles on it (or at least on the cluster) and seems to be in pretty good shape. Made the ride to work this morning no hassle. My friggin kneecaps were frozen solid by the time I made it to my desk hahahaha!! Heading to the DMV after work and picking up riding gear next week.
That feeling of being more aware of my surroundings and not bombarded by BS on the radio is so great.

So the guy gave me the title that was given to him when he bought the bike. Since he never registered the damn thing in his name, he owes all kinds of crap to the state. Also, the bike hasn't been registered in over five years, so it's been purged from the system. Basically, I have to find a way to get he and I both to the MVD, which is only open while I'm at work, and figure this ish out. After that, I get to go to emissions and hope that the thing passes. I'm planning on taking it to a dealer anyway to have it gone through but I'm starting to think I should have just bought a damn new one. FML!!!

Going to part it out most likely. It's the easiest way to get around the whole title issue. I think I just lost about $500 if not more. It's like going to Vegas, without the titties, alcohol, gambling, night clubs, food and all the other generally good ****. FAAAAKKKKKKKK!!!!!
