New guy

Morning, this is my first forum so please be kind to the newbie. I just bought a 2001- 250. It's not my first bike but it may become my everyday bike. HOWEVER, it looks like it needs new carbs. I was wondering if anyone knew where to find them other than a Kawasaki dealer?

Since I haven't been able to ride it yet I was also wondering how the 250 would compare to a Honda VFR500 interceptor? I use to have one back in the 80's.

Looking forward to hearing about the Ninjette!!

Thanks Chris, I'm not much of a wrench guy. Do you know if there a year specific carbs? Don't want to get the wrong ones.

I am not 100% sure of compatibility between the older/newer generations, someone with more experience than me will chime in soon. But assuming your bike is a 2001 (your profile) then you can get a carb set from the years 1988–2007.

I looked up the Carburetor Assembly on Kawasaki Parts House. They gave the part number as 15003-1602. Searching by that part number, it shows for years 2001-2007.

The part number for the Carburetor Assembly for 1988-2000 is 15001-1433.

So Kawi says something changed, but I don't know the parts well enough to say what.

I'm bored....

The parts places are showing roughly $800ish for the assembly.

But hey! Here's one for just over $200 http://www.ebay.com/itm/01-07-Kawasa...-/360833737435

Ok, I really should get back to work....

Well http://oemninjaparts.com/ is down so I can't check with him.

Also, check through our own Marketplace, there's some older bikes/engines in there: https://www.ninjette.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16

I don't know any salvage sites other than digging through eBay. Craigslist may have something if you can find someone parting out a 250.

carbs

WELL, to tell the truth my mechanic friend looked the bike over for me and suggested I replace them. I think he tried cleaning them but they had been sitting for 7 years un-used.

BTW~ Beagles really stands for Philly Eagles! Until Chip came along they had been playing like dogs!

welcome. Carbs are actually not that big a deal to clean/rebuild. Try it with a decent set of cores and a rebuild kit both from ebay. cheap enough, why not?

carb

Thanks all!! Nope, no name yet. I haven't even sat on the bike yet. It's at a friends awaiting the carbs I bought from TonyKZ1. Should be here any day.
I'm not sure what I am going to do with the old ones? Maybe see if I can get them functioning. Looks like winter is coming in a big way the the East tomorrow so no riding even if they do make it.
