Speedo wrong reading
I have an '08 250R and noticed that when I get above about 30mph, the speedo is incorrect at what I am traveling by about +5mph. My son was noticing that he was following me at around 40mph, while my bike was reading about 45mph. We did comparison tests at 35mph and it was the same, but slower speeds were pretty close.
Is there a fix for this? |

It's pretty normal for the speedo to be off on bikes; someone should chime in with what you're looking for... I don't really look at the speedo

Look here first; https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=39749
You have but a few options; Koso, Trail Tech or other brand (dash replacement) About 100-125 + install time A bicycle speedo can be wired on (prices are all over the place) Use a GPS speedo (smart phone or gps device) A taller front tire can also be used (least favorite option, included for completeness lol)

Problem comes from mechanical nature of speedo. You've got gears in hub that spins the speedo-cable. You've got gears in the speedo that the cable connects to. There's a finite integer number of teeth possible with gears. So you can have a 30x20t combination or a 20x15t (examples, not really tooth-count). If a 25x10 gear-combo fits into hub and reads just under actual speed. The next combo up 25x11t may read just over actual speed. Can't get a 25x11.5t gear-combo to mesh. So... what is one to do? Tell people they're going too fast or tell them they're going too slow?

It's a 250, they want you to think you are going fast.
Just know there is an error (check it with the gps on your phone) and adjust your speed accordingly. My wife's Scion Xb is the same way. When the speedometer says you are doing 80 mph you are really doing about 73. So in a 65 mph zone I drive what they car says is 80 mph and don't worry about tickets. |

Different tires read just a little differently but it's not really anything you need to worry about a lot. Just recognize that your speed's not quite the same as the reading.
