Drug overdose was the leading cause of injury death in 2012. Among people 25 to 64 years old, drug overdose caused more deaths than motor vehicle traffic crashes.1
Drug overdose death rates have been rising steadily since 1992 with a 117% increase from 1999 to 2012 alone.1
In 2012, 33,175 (79.9%) of the 41,502 drug overdose deaths in the United States were unintentional, 5,465 (13.2%) were of suicidal intent, 80 (0.2%) were homicides, and 2,782 (6.7%) were of undetermined intent.1
In 2011, drug misuse and abuse caused about 2.5 million emergency department (ED) visits. Of these, more than 1.4 million ED visits were related to pharmaceuticals.2
Between 2004 and 2005, an estimated 71,000 children (18 or younger) were seen in EDs each year because of medication overdose (excluding self-harm, abuse and recreational drug use).4
Among children under age 6, pharmaceuticals account for about 40% of all exposures reported to poison centers.5
Most Common Drugs Involved in Overdoses
In 2012, of the 41,502 drug overdose deaths in the United States, 22,114 (53%) were related to pharmaceuticals.6
Of the 22,114 deaths relating to pharmaceutical overdose in 2012, 16,007 (72%) involved opioid analgesics (also called opioid pain relievers or prescription painkillers), and 6,524 (30%) involved benzodiazepines.6 (Some deaths include more than one type of drug.)
In 2011, about 1.4 million ED visits involved the nonmedical use of pharmaceuticals. Among those ED visits, 501,207 visits were related to anti-anxiety and insomnia medications, and 420,040 visits were related to opioid analgesics.2
Benzodiazepines are frequently found among people treated in EDs for misusing or abusing drugs.2 People who died of drug overdoses often had a combination of benzodiazepines and opioid analgesics in their bodies.6

the ld50 for lsd is so ridiculously high and the activity so potent at such a low dose that it's one of few drugs you can actually take "1000 doses" of and not die. on the other hand, like you put it... changes may occur. try taking 1000 doses of anything and see how it goes. chances are you wont be the same after.

i hate to completely change the topic though. but it just erks me that so few people understand how bad of a problem our certified drug dealers... i mean doctors... have created for so many people by so willingly discrediting the dangers of prescription drugs... its just "oh i know this problem, i read about it all the time in my pfizer advertising documents. take this pill and pay your bill and call me in two months"

why prescribe methadone to anyone that isn't a recovering heroin user? it's ****ing stupid ignorance. the ease at which people will willingly and ignorantly walk into problems like drug addiction honestly disgusts me.

I know, it's been well known since the beginning of time that heroin is super-addictive, yet a 23yo neighbor who is a friend of mine, tells me that garbage is everywhere. WTF?

Gee, let me throw my life away so I can get stoned today!

Don't get me started on the "legal" pill pushers.....
Those frign oxy's are making big pharma $$$$

That's because you're near baltimore. H is too easy to get here, the dealers prey on the vulnerable, poor, homeless, etc. If they feel like they have a **** life already the dealers will be talking with them. They convince you with freebies, try to convince you that you can do it once then walk away if you don't like it. Trust me, walking away after you've tried something like that is insanely difficult and not something you want to do. They know that you'll be hooked after you try it and that you'll eventually sell it for them and create new contacts so that you can afford it. I despise the dealers who sell that ****. I don't mind the pot dealers that only sell minor stuff on college campuses though, they're generally not hurting/killing people with or over their product.

Baltimore is a hub, if you're within a days driving distance there's a high chance that's where your smack came from. Some entrepreneur buying from the bangers and distributing to the countryside. Of course if you're closer to another city it could very well come from there but baltimore has a bigger problem with it than philly or pittsburg.

several people in that video were in fact harassing her... the creep walking next to her for 5 minutes while he chatted her up was probably the worst. but saying that it is harassment because someone looks at you and says have a nice day? that is completely ridiculous.

She didn't make eye contact with anyone.

If you say "have a nice day" with no eye contact is most certainly creepy, but not necessarily harassment.

The rest are harassment IMO. Good awareness video but you won't change any of the creepers in it.

And to be clear, if gender roles had been reversed i would stand by my statements.

Pay attention to your next face to face conversation and tell me the percentage of eye to eye contact throughout (male or female). Unless who you are talking to is bleeding confidence, it's gunna be less than 50%. Hell, I am crazy confident and I don't always make 50%. ijs Human natures is not a reason.

I'm not say that constant eye contact is a must for a conversation. I dont do that 100% of the time. But a conversation is a bit different.

In this kind of scenario its creepy to just say hi out of the blue like that. Especially in NY. Its creepy up there to start.

At least i would be creeped out by it, andy i wouldnt walk alone up there, especially after dark. I would bet money none of the guys in that have much if any respect for women, or anyone for that matter.

This is what is cool about people though. Some are cool, others are more reserved. I have said hi to people without provocation. I hope they are cool with it, if not... that is ok too. I just hope they think I am not a creeper. lol

i suppose its the area that makes the big difference. it would be creepy in say georgia if you walked by someone and they DIDNT say something to acknowledge you. in california i think it goes either way. if someone doesn't respond i think the assumption is either that they're deeply involved in something or they're wearing some fancy earphones you can't see.

I have never had strangers on the street randomly say hi to me in my everyday life.

Yea, area has a lot to do with it sad to say. Same thing in say my sleepy little town wouldn't necessarily be creepy... Well there is this on family...
