Hit a Rock went over the bars and gashed my Arm but the bike if fine

While riding out in Utah I hit a rock with my front wheel and got thrown over the bars. I was only wearing shorts, t-shirt, gloves, shoes and a helmet so I ended up with a huge gash in my arm. Luckily the bike came out almost completly unscathed except for a scuffed bar end.

Aaaah, got it. Thanks, Al! And I hope that heals up soon, Jason. I hate the itchy phase of stitches, but at least you may get a cool scar out of it.

I'm not completely sure how much of a difference that would have made in this scenario. It appears to be a puncture wound and moto jackets are designed primarily to slide rather than to take direct impacts.

I think the armor is for direst impacts and the leather is for sliding.

That's why I'm glad I have a bunch of CE armor in it. That will stand a good puncture, at least a hell of a lot better than fragile skin.

Pulled out my stitches today and made an arm plate to protect my arm in this weekends race. I figure I'll just gaffers tape it strait to the arm so it can shift in a crash.

put strong, wide, non-stretchy tape (think paper tape with duct tape on top- not medical tape or plastic tape) directly over the wound with the pad on top, and then tape that down. i've unfortunately made the mistake several times before of ripping open wounds again by crashing too frequently. now i've learned to tape wounds so they wont reopen when i get physical before they are 100%

Oh yeah I've got the plan. The gaffers tape I have sticks to skin so well I'm more worried about opening the wound when I try and remove it. I'm thinking weaker tape right over the wound with gaffers of that, then a thin pad, next the molded plate and finally more gaffers tape.

I made the mistake of using the tape earlier this week and It literally waxed that part of my arm. I figure if I'm going to be losing all the hair anyways I'll just shave the damn arm ahead of time.

If nothing else I can use my new forearm arumor to break off cagers mirrors when they cut me off on the way to and from the race

For those who haven't figured it out yet, I did crash my bike from hitting a rock but the bike in question was my MTB so that's why the lack of gear.

I don't know what exactly gashed my arm but the trail or route if you want to call it anything was a solid rock riverbed/waterfall and every sharp rock and cactus wanted to take a bit out of you. I cleaned(rode it through cleanly) the section the day before in my pre-ride but somehow I ****ed it up during the race a payed the price.

I didn't stick around very long deducing why I had crashed so I don't know exactly how I landed. According to my gps data I was only stopped for 90 seconds for I got back on and continued the race.
