Hello! A bolt issue brought me here.

Hey everybody. I'm proud to have purchased a '09 EX250 for my first street bike.

I had a shifter problem today and googled my way to this thread. While riding through town I tried to shift and felt nothing but air. Looked down and saw this.

I'm happy to discover that this is a common problem with an easy solution. I think I have to just get a bolt and some locktite, though I'm not sure exactly what size bolt I need.

This is really my fault because I'm not spending nearly enough time maintaining the bike. The reason for this is I have absolutely zero mechanical know-how and I'm scared of engines. Anyone know of a newbie primer on bike maintenance? I found this Ninja 250 wiki which seems to have a lot of good information. I'll start there.

Anyway, glad to join the club.

May be an idea to take it to a garage for a once over, I see the bike has been layed onto it's left side at speed due to the bolt and kickstand being ground down, this probably bent the shifter slightly and may have dislodged the bolt a bit and it's worked its way loose from there.

You won't just need a bolt, there is also a washer that goes between the lever and the rearset.

Good eye, Joshorilla. Hate to admit I laid it down at low speed while braking over a road surface change. I have loads of experience on dirt but my street skills are sub par. Need to sign up for a rider course.

I appreciate the welcome gents, and thanks for the help with the bolt.
