semi naked/streetfighter build
So i finally got my bike looking good enough to post what I've done. This is my first bike, so I didn't have much in the way of know how when i started taking things apart. I don't have much in the way of tools, or a shop... or money...... or time, so this ended up taking almost a year with periods of not doing much. My bike is my daily driver, so I couldn't have it just sitting in my carport unless I wanted to beg for rides to work.
Let me know what you do or don't like, or if you have any suggestions. I'm 90% (more or less) finished. I want to work on the exhaust, but I'm not quite decided on what to do. In a few years i'll probably buy something bigger and turn this one into a track bike. These are the pics from before i did anything. I had more, but idk where they went.

Starting to take it apart, still a bit of an ugly duckling. After I pulled some of the fairings off I went out and crashed it, so the right pipe is pretty banged up.

a question
So why did you end up keeping the front lower fairing on? Just preference or is there a mechanical reason? I've been toying with this idea myself and am just curious as to why you left it.

I just liked the way it looked, and I thought it might be a good place for new graphics.

Maybe a new color scheme. I live in az, so I was thinking white with kawi-green accents to keep the surface from getting super hot in the sun.

It's flat. Although the shape give it an adequate field of view.

It's probably not a bad idea to add a relay kit and just bypass the stock wiring completely if you're switching to dual lights like this. That will also have the benefit of reducing voltage drop, giving you more light output.

That makes a lot of sense. I haven't done any of that. The light output is much better than stock, but the battery does die quickly if I accidentally leave the light on.

With the stock setup, power is actually fed to the headlight from the left control, which is fed from the fusebox, which is fed from the ignition switch. There are a lot of switches, connectors, and small wires in that circuit, which leads to a decent bit of loss by the time the power actually gets to the bulb. After installing a relay kit, that circuit only uses a tiny bit of power to trigger the relay, then the bulb gets power through a big dedicated power wire directly to the battery with only the relay inline. You get better power to the light, and less stress on the factory wiring (especially if you're installing a bigger/additional light).
