Same amount of traction regardless of temps. That rain on Tuesday however.
I don't see any snow in the forecast, you're good. Just throw on another layer.

The cold doesn't bother me, here in New England Autumn is our most beautiful season. It is sad to think about the upcoming winter... It's going to kill me to winterize my bike for 4 months

Between buying my bike in July '12 and putting it away in November '13, the only month I didn't ride was February. I rode to a Christmas party, and it was mild enough the first few days of January that I rode it to work. It got nice enough to ride again before the end of March. It was over two months long that I didn't get to ride, but only one calendar month that I didn't actually ride at all.
This winter it sat in the garage from November 15 to March 30. =(

53 isn't that cold. With good riding gear, most folks don't wuss out until the temperature drops below 40f.

I ride until its 40F, anythings less and I don't have gear to keep me warm enough to be safe. 60F is no big deal, keep on riding.

The wonderful fall weather has some of the best riding days, not too hot... not to cold. Around my parts, the trees will turn colors and you can see how nature prepares for winter. Just watch out for the wet leaves and squirrels collecting nuts. lol

Freeze-out gear
I was nice and toasty riding in this morning. Just need warmer gloves. I'll be ordering them today.

Not sure how it is in the rest of the country but where I live in PA the cold temps are not what keeps me off the roads in the winter, its the tons and tons of salt and gravel they put down on the roads. After the first couple of snowfalls around here it just makes more sense to put the bike away, not really worth it IMO.
Would rather keep it nice and not risk going down on loose gravel that is absolutely everywhere especially in the center of lane & at turns and stops, so that along with exposing it to all the salt keeps me off the road. Could you ride all year here... maybe, would it be fun..... not likely....your chances of going down skyrocket up.... yes. Besides, the thought of heated seats and heated steering wheel, makes me feel all warm and cozy inside

The salt and sand is a problem around me to. If the roads are covered in it i won't ride for the hazard the salt/sand posses and the mess it makes of vehicles. When its that cold i can't wash the bike. (i like to keep the feeling in my hands. )

during the winter i usually just take each bike out for about 10-15 minutes to get them up to temp, take them around my normal loop and then park them. Im too lazy to winterize them

I am really looking forward to fall and winter here in FL. It's been SOOOO hot lately. Makes riding during the day almost miserable, but I refuse to ride w/o all my gear on. Usually do early morning or night rides to avoid the heat right now.

I'll ride until it becomes snow and ice conditions. That becomes a safety hazard.
