New rider in socal

Hello everyone! Found this forum by looking for faqs on maintenance and etc on google. I took my MSF, got my license, and my 09 250R all in a span of one week a couple weeks ago. I actually had my M1 permit 5 years ago and rode a couple hundred miles, but I let the permit expire at the end of the year. My brother expressed an interest in riding, so I decided to take it up again to ride with him.

I'm into cars a lot. I try to take my V6 swapped 1987 MR2 to Willow Springs as much as I can, but school keeps me busy. Getting a bike just seemed to be another way to have fun. I can't wait to take the Ninja out to the track soon to really improve my technique!

Now when you say track your ninja soon....how soon? We're putting together a day for track noobs in so cal to come out and ride with more experienced riders to learn the ropes and race lines etc. It will be Friday November 9th. use the search function for the so cal noobie track day feeler, we'd love to have you come out!

I'll be racing next weekend

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

I will look into the Nov 9 track day! I need to buy a leather racing suit and boots for it though don't I?

I'm comfortable with the controls and everything on my bike. I'm rev matching as much as I can on downshifts, just habit from driving my cars. I think I'm still not sure of how fast I can go in corners (trust the bike), and I'm very reluctant to lean on corners.

Lean takes time but I can tell you that I learned more in one track day than my first 6 months of riding and some people start on the track before they have ever ridden street do dont be afraid to get out there.

As far as suits go go to revzilla.com and search for the AGV Sport Monza. It's on clearance for $350. Jiggles got one and he's all over the forum, ask him how he likes it. Boots - you can get a pair of alpinestars smx-5 relatively cheap and they work well. Ironpony.com had them on sale from the AYC (alpinestars Yamaha collection) a whole back. Maybe they still have them?

Ah I see the suit on motorcycle gear, not on revzilla. Not bad, they have one color in my size left I think. Damn you, making me spend money already.

Welcome.

Go to track!

I started riding in August 2011. Went to my first track in November 2011.

Haven't been riding on the street since January 2012
