Which Would You Pick?
Suppose you're thinking to replace your ninjette. You want a bike that's bigger, more comfortable and stable for highway commuting, I4 preferably (for smoothness), but still fun and capable at intro track days.
Okay, now you're me, and here are a couple choices: 1) 08-09 GSX 650F, well cared for and in good shape. $3600-4200, so could pay cash for them. Given that, I'd take it to the track a few times before the season's up. http://baltimore.craigslist.org/mcy/3905601626.html http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/m...975707885.html 2) 13 FZ6R: $7045 OTD, so I'd finance half of it. Wouldn't take a brand new bike (with a lien) to the track, so she'd be street-duty only until next season. http://www.yamahamotorsports.com/spo...619/0/360.aspx Opinions? Votes? Of course, I'm gonna' do whatever I want anyway, but it's a fun game to play, so let's hear your thoughts! |

(I'd get a FZ. Probably not that one but a less expensive one.) |

If you are planning on going the brand new route, I would suggest waiting for the FZ-09

I figured since you were going to get what you wanted anyway I might as well suggest something that I dream about instead. Glad to help

And I WISH I could love the SVs. I've seen all those ads, and there's one I want even more as well (blue with a white racing stripe). But I'm just done with twins for now. I have some nerve damage in my wrist, and the pain from riding went up significantly when I switched from the triple to the 300. Not enough to make me ride less, just enough to make grumpy when I finally get off the bike, lol. |

in all seriousness the 09 650 in Bowie looks like a solid deal, 1500 miles on it, it is practically new
Assuming you are not interested in SS's either but found this ZX6R, nice looking bike. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/m...925795530.html

I would go with the FZ-09 if youre going to get a new bike.
I like that ZX6 though @subxero, but that fender is gawd awful.

Yup, that zx6 is pretty sweet. But you're right, that I'm looking at the 'tamer' sportbikes, since I need one bike to do everything well (with 98% of my riding being commuting).
Yeah, sorry, that was vague. It's about vibes, not riding position (I actually really like the 'moderately aggressive' position of slightly high clip-ons). So I considered the F4i and R6S, for instance, as the position is pretty good. But nerve damage in the wrist is really aggrevated by vibrations, so gripping a handlebar on a vibey bike is pretty much the worst thing I can do for my wrist pain, haha. Riding ANY bike will aggrevate it some, but the more vibes that come through the bar, the worse it is. Bummer, I know. |

FZ6R handles like a tractor compared to the Triple. |

F4i, FZ6, or SV650 would be my choices. I didn't care much about the ninja 650.

From what I hear those Suzi 650s are pretty heavy, more of a sport touring machine than a sport bike. The FZ or an SV would probably be a lot more sporty.
Someone mentioned an F4i but they're getting harder to find in decent shape. Unless you like the banana seat models..... which I guess wouldn't really be a problem since these other bikes are bananas lol. It IS a true supersport though so much more aggressive and more powerful than a GSX650F or FZ6/FZ6R. |

This is a hard one. I think the FZ6R is nice, but I wonder if it will have enough character for you. The 300 has lots of bark and revs, while I've heard the FZ6R is heavy and has a very bland power curve. Now the older one with the better frame - FZ6 is nicer in many ways.
It would be hard to steer you towards anything - you had a really torque heavy Triple before, then the nice 300... hard to say what you'd like. I almost think the FZ6R might be too boring for you. I had to say it. I went the SS route and I have had a lot of bikes. Went with the ZX6R and love it. I can cruise at 65 in 6th at like 6,000k. Very docile. Or I can downshift and have it be really scrappy and angry. It is like having two different bikes for me. Don't know if you've ever tried a standard SS type bike before, but I really like them. And a 600 isn't too much of an over-kill. Well, maybe just a little, but have some restraint. Bikes I've had. You can ask me about any of them if you want, I'm very opinionated. I can tell you which ones I hated - R6, ER-6N for instance. I want 2 bikes though. I need to repurchase a WR250R. 1. Yamaha - FZ6 - 2004 2. Kawasaki - ZX-6RR - 2004 3. Kawasaki - 250R - 2009 4. Kawasaki - ER-6N - 2009 5. Kawasaki - ZX-10R - 2008 6. Yamaha - R6 - 2008 7. Yamaha - WR250R - 2010 8. Yamaha - FZ8 - 2011 9. Kawasaki - 300R - 2013 10. Kawasaki - ZX6R - 2011 (Current bike) |

Check out how nice the newer FZ6s look. All black frame and engine cases. Nice new R6 dual pot brakes... and a fairing. You might be able to find a nice low mileage example. My dealer had a brand new for sale that had been sitting for awhile. Check around. Or maybe a FZ1?
Look at this FZ6 - |

So many bikes, so little time. And yeah, I've basically decided that new bikes are out of the question. They make me too nervous, and I'd have to finance at least part of it. So I've restricted my search to anything I could pay cash for -- probably the $5k and below mark. All moot if I can't sell my Ninjette, though! |

I'd go with a used FZ6 or FZ8. Stay away from the FZ6R, its slow, heavy, and not sexy. I got rid of the fairing on mine so it's not very good at 80 mph+, but with the fairing it was a great highway bike.
My FZ6 If your set on a new bike, wait for the FZ-09. It seems like the best bang for your buck. |

I haven't taken it to the track.
It is pretty upright (almost the same as my 250R), so it might be a little awkward at the track. I have read that they're fairly capable, but I don't think it would compete with a Street Triple at the track. The one thing to note is the center stand has got to go if you head to the track. Going through curvy back roads where your not getting your knee down it feels pretty confident though. Disclaimer: I'v never rode a street bike with fully adjustable suspension. |
