Don't get the 300 as a trip bike
I just did a 13h trip on the bike co/az and this bike sucked as a long trip bike 100% stock if you do get it as a trip bike you will need to change a lot of stuff on it.

So you're complaining that it didn't turn itself in to a touring bike?

You do the 15t in front and a few in the back like the old 89 250 had. No rubber and after 10h of it vibrating it sucks.

It definitely doesn't look very good for carrying cargo. At least compared to the pre gen 250.

Sounds like someone needs to harden the f*ck up. j/k. In all honestly what did you expect? I mean 13 hours on a bike? That'd suck in a car.

If you wanted to take long trips, you bought the wrong motorcycle. Of course you have to make modifications because you are not using it as the engineers who designed it intended. This complaint is like complaining that you can't tow a camper trailer with a Miata. That does not make the Miata a crappy vehicle, it just means that it was not designed to be able to tow a trailer. I can break a 2x4 into two pieces with a hammer, but if I use a saw, it will be a lot easier and the end result will be better. Choose the correct tool for the job, or suffer with less than optimal performance.

Well most people only plan on trips once in a while and still want to ride normal distances every day or do some spirited riding. A new rider isn't likely to also buy a second bike just for touring.

Were all missing the point that the OP thinks a supersport is an adequate choice for a 13hr ride.
OP is bananas

I plan lots of long trips on mine. You can tow a small travel trailer behind a Miata and most modern riders are hipster ninnys who can't stand to be in the slightest of discomfort.
Guys used to ride 100cc Hodakas from coast to coast. Cowboy the-Fk up! |

Plan is not the same as ride. take a 1000 mile trip then get back to us. It was not really that bad on a 600 I had the power to do 130+ so it take me less time. Don't get me wrong I like the 300 up in the hills but on the free way in NM with a head wind it sucks. I will keep the 300 I am making in to a track bike I will keep the 02 250 I have for fun on the street and I decided to get a newer zx-14 do a few mods like hard saddle bags bigger wind screen and a really nice seat.

The 300 is a friggin Caddilac compared to bikes regularly ridden across country in the early 70s. Guy have done it with hard tails and dirt bikes. The 300 has a perfectly standard ride position, and enough power to cruise at 85 MPH up and over just about anything.
Vibration? You are kidding, right? Is this the second half of the 300 will fail thread? Jump on a rigid H-D motored bike, or a tuber Buell, or a Honda CB350. The MB-5 looks comfortable? Put the bottle down and go to bed! |

I'm doing a 1500 mile trip next month, so I'll be back with a second opinion in a bit. It's the same trip I did on my Streetie, and so far, the Ninja is a lot more comfy. The wind from being on a naked bike was pretty rough, and I actually like the shape of the 300's saddle more. Report forthcoming!

Not quite. I have the Kawasaki Touring Windscreen and a 15t front sprocket. Both are specifically because I put a lot of miles on my bike, but I'll spend less than half of the trip on the interstate, and half of that time is mountain interstate, so still pretty fun.
Haha. Bring it on. I just call it mental toughness training for the Toughmudder race I'm doing in June. |
