08 r6 Track/Race Build

Hey @psych0hans

This is for you buddy. I finally started on my build for the track r6 for next season.
  1. Get bike home - done!
  2. Strip all bodywork - done!
  3. Check every bolt for torque and generally check out the complete bike
  4. Set suspension
  5. Get clipons & rearsets and remove general street bits
  6. Go on the r6 diet plan, which includes removing cat and reflashing of ecu
  7. Put track bodywork on
  8. Start tweaking while coaching for race season

So you have 2 R6? Is one going to be street and the other track only?
I will be watching this thread.

Yes mam, I have 2 r6's. Next we meet up again at the track, I will be on this bike if my plans go well. If we see each other on the street, I will be on my blue one that you seen at Mid-O.

There will be some switching of pieces and parts between the 2 bikes, but overall you will know this one when you see it in the paddock.

ps... it will not be black.

Since your out of room in your garage I could store the 250 for you. You will need to leave the key so I can start it periodically

In all honestly if I could I would and I would have another bike myself

Yepp. I'm in a one bike situation right now. When one borrows space in their parents' garage to store their motorcycle and bicycles, one must be polite and not take up the whole place with a fleet.

Just one for now.

Actually, your mechanic and crew chief Jade should pick the color. But in hope its yellow and pink highlighter colors.

I also think jade should pick. Keep her involved. I like that idea better than my color suggestion, though I wouldn't mind if she picked highlighter yellow.

Yes sir secret is safe with us...
Instead of just sponsor stickers you could add our screen names to the mix. It would make for good pit conversation.

What if you got a vinyl cutter and like 10 random colors of vinyls. Then, take your 1000 handshakes and a million faces thread, and make a vinyl of the name of each person you met and continue to meet. Random colors for each name. Youll have a continuously growing paint job. Lol. Just don't crash and tear them all off.

Update is less than what you guys want (no pics). I have went through half the nuts & bolts and such. I have also started matching the suspension settings to my other r6, that I have written down.

Quote:
Here are my complete r6 suspension settings.

Front: OEM Forks
Sag: 35mm
Preload: 3 lines
Rebound: 7 clicks out
Low speed - 4 clicks out
High speed - 2 turns out

NOTE MY OEM SHOCK IS DIFFERENT between 06 and 08, in respect to the high and low speed compression adjusters
Rear: OEM Shock
Sag: 27mm
Ramp Preload: Topped out
Rebound: 7 clicks out
Low speed: 15 clicks out
High speed: 7 clicks out (right at 2 turns)
I do my own suspension work and keep a running log of every change. This bike has a non stock front end (springs) that are set to 10lbs less than my fully geared weight. The rear shock is also slightly different but has all the same settings. I am trying to ride this bike on the track in about a week and will tweak from there. I am hoping I don't have to replace the springs by tweaking it out "close enough".

The overall goal of this bike is not hard core racing, I am just trying to have some fun at A group pace and do some coaching.

Ran the bike long enough to get it fully warmed up. All is well aside of a little bend in the fan mounts on the radiator causing one of the fans to rub. Easy fix and this bike is mechanically track day ready. Still much to do to get it race ready.

I have turned a few laps on my r6 there. Could have done more if I didn't have some mechanical issues those 3 days.
